Ride Safe, Be Kind

Earth

« on: February 09, 2012, 06:31:15 PM »

I've noticed some hostility here as of late and I have a few thoughts.  I frequent several boards for the various intgerests that I have-choppers, vintage Land Cruisers, hot rods, home machine shops, etc...

Here's the thing.  Even when you're arguing or offended here, you're all so.....NICE.

On another board I recieved an email that was not far from a death threat for suggesting that late 70's Shovelheads are less that 100% reliable.  On another forum a guy was disowned for daring to state that an aftermarket carburetor provided better performance on his Land Cruiser than the board's pet carb.

All I'm saying is, look around the net, see how people are treated elsewhere and realize what a nice thing you (we) have here.

Ride safe,

I agree. I also visit numerous bike and non-bike forums (or boards) and know where you're coming from. There's boards for every topic and people should avail themselves of other people's field of knowledge. Anyways, my experience with forums that are too lax with reining in the tone of an augument is that after a while readers get tired of it. That's also true of the professional rivalries and professional jealousies aspect too.

Land Crusiers huh?
I bought a red '78 FJ-40 with 7000 miles on it in '79 for $5500.  My youngest daughter was born in '78.  When she started driving, she realized that it was a super good boy magnet.  It drove like a cord wood truck, so I know she did not like it for the ride.  Anyway, she liked it so I gave it to her.  A few years later, after she married, she sold it for $3000.  Only real problem we ever had was a clutch replacement, & her future husband & some of his friends changed it out in our driveway in the middle of the night.   Nine quarts of oil at an oil change.  Great memories.  It's still here in town.

See!!!!! That's what owning a Valkyrie does to you. It automatically bonds you to other Valkyrie owners and even though you may disagree on some things, you still realize were all on the same team!

Yep, I learned to drive in one and I can only hope my kids will want to drive mine someday.  Cool on your daughter for wanting it.  It's not most teenage girls idea of a cool ride.

I have been here for a few years and each Winter I see this latent hostility on the board.  As adults, we know it is just cabin fever and we would all rather be riding.  Still, there are some that get their feelings hurt and leave or sit on the sidelines, watching but remaining silent for fear of attack.  By Spring there are some get-togethers and rides.  By InZane, it is one big party.  One big cycle.  Overall, it is the best forum I have ever visited.

I participate in essentially 2 other forums... both hunting related.  they are pretty good.  I was on one for my Dodge Magnum for a while... but all those guys every talk about is how they "modded" them for this or that and we're fairly hostile.  Bang... I'm out.

We got it good here.  Partially due to the advanced average age of our members, and partially due to the diligence of our highly trained and highly paid staff, who split almost 95% of the club dues amongst themselves directly. 2funny Evil
