It reminds me of an anthill in the backyard... you can stomp the hell out of it and you come back the next morning and it's all rebuilt just like it was before and sometimes even bigger...
I mean that as a compliment to the Japanese by the way... amazingly industrious and resilient.

And, compare that to some sections of New Orleans. People just sitting around, waiting for someone else to fix it all for them.

It's the same reason why such a tiny island nation was capable of empire and such a formidable foe in WWII.

Japan having limited places to put debris.
Where did it all go.
I hope not dumping it the Ocean as a solution.
But makes you wonder.

I was wondering the same thing as Anvil, but you notice you dont hear to much about Fukashima plant and what radiation is around. I know they were able to get the reactors under some control but its still not totally nailed down yet.

Having been stationed in Japan more years ago than i care to count-they are indeed a very industrious people. I remember in the Phillipines seeing the flight deck getting repaired and taking the better part of a week to 10 days. In Japan they fixed an area 5 or 6 times larger than they did in the P I and they did it in 2 days. I have about zero idea what they did with the clean up material-put in containers and sent to India maybe?? Just speculation on my part. RIDE SAFE.

Judging from the debris pics wood and wood-based products would seem to still be the dominant building material in Japan (which is why their cities were so vulnerable to fire-bombing during WWII). Maybe the vast majority of it was burned or recycled?

i saw that NBC news did a story on Haiti's three year 7.0 earthquake aniversary, and how the countries still trying to recover...... it's amazing how one country has very little welfare, and the people WORK to rebuild thier society, while another depends on America's "generosity" and they STILL live in tents.....
there were NO national "help Japan" money drives that i can think of, and in less then a year THEY cleaned up their WHOLE country!!
