I'm thinking of getting some kind of alarm system for both the Valk & the Harley and was seeking some advise.  I have decided the best way to protect my investment is to use a vehicle tracking system, in conjunction with an alarm system.  My thoughts are the audible alarm system won't stop a pro., so a Gps or lojack would be a good locator for the bike. Anyone using a GPS or Lojack?

Terry,  I looked at LoJack, but the cost was pretty high.  I went with the Viper MC Alarm.  I has not only the audible alarm, but a kill function that prevents starting the bike (even with the key)  if someone messes with the bike.  Unless they're going to pick it up and carry if away, they won't take it anywhere by starting and riding.  And if by chance they find and cut the power wire to the alarm, the siren is battery operated to go off in case of power disruuption.  That feature can be disabled by a key switch if desired.

You'll face a couple of problems with a GPS tracking system. One is finding a space to stash and hide the unit unless you have a bike with a fairing with storage space. You'll also have a problem with the unit draining your battery. There's lots and lots of units on the market so there's many variables here. One of the worst things about GPS tracking is monthly fees.

For years I've been using a tracker that has real time tracking, showing the unit's location every 5 seconds and has no tracking fee at all. It's done with a cheap, pay-as-you-go cell phone running on Boost Mobile. I have to pay $10.00 per quarter for the phone service and nothing else for 24/7 full time, real time tracking. You have to know just a little about installing the software on the phone unit and that's free too.

The only catch is the phone has to stay on all the time and that would kill your battery on a bike. It stays on all the time in my cars and truck with no problem but not on the bike. And there's no (simple) way to have the phone start up automatically when you start the bike and shut off when you shut down. So this is not a good option for security. I use these in my vehicles for travel and time tracking for my business and I use it on the bike for safety... So I could be located if the unthinkable happens and I crashed off the road and couldn't been seen.

Here's a link to the web site which does the tracking. You can find a lot of information there.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I had one a Road king I used to have, and it kept me from riding the bike more than it would a thief.
My Streetglide and Valk both have no alarm system....but that is going to change real soon. I keep them in the garage and have a house alarm, but when I'm out on the bikes and have to park from eyesight I need something.
