Ronnie brought back the USA to once again be a proud nation. We could really use someone like him now. YMMV

Now, now boys, stop it. You're both right.
Reagan was exactly what America needed at the time. Unfortunately his semi-reckless policies did have some lasting negative effects on the nation. His economic doctrine was not one designed to promote sustained growth, but rather one to pull us out of a hole. That's fine in the short term, but then you need to reel it in a bit and start the framework for sustainable growth. But people were so busy making money hand over fist that the administration was either powerless or unwilling to shift course . In fact, the fallout from Reaganomics cost an otherwise pretty good President (Bush I) a second term.
There's also the matter of frequent back-door dealing with less than savory characters. All Presidents are forced to do some of it but Reagan pulled a few real boners (his own words actually).

Boxer rebellion, the Holy Child. They all pay their rent. But none together can testify to the rhythm of a road well bent. Saddles and zip codes, passports and gates, the Jones' keep. In August the water is trickling, in April it's furious deep.

But you gotta admit, he could tell a joke! (and not get in trouble for it)

See.... the Liberals just can't take any kind of humor or making fun of em.... sheesh.
I guess it's because there is truth in humor and the truth does hurt. Grow some thicker skin and suck it up.

Since I can't get my political humor here I've turned to search engines: Here are the hit counts that I get:
"President Bush Jokes": 23,700,000 "President Obama Jokes": 31,2000,000 "President Carter Jokes": 12,900,000
"Bush jokes": 53,400,000 "Obama jokes": 62,900,000
"Democrat jokes about republicans": 2,300,000 "Republican jokes about Democrats": 3,530,000
"Jokes about republicans": 1,020,000 "Jokes about democrats": 5,600,000
"Jokes about liberals": 2,250,000 "Jokes about conservatives": 2,410,000
I find it interesting that liberals and conservative jokes are about even but democrat and republican jokes are very lopsided to the democrats. I expected that President Carter jokes, a long time favorite target, would not fare as well as recent presidents but I am surprised that President Obama jokes are about 50% greater than Presidents George H and W Bush combined.
When it comes to referring to the presidents without their title, which I think indicates more derisive humor the results are more even.

Here's my spin on these figures: The numbers were much closer when you said you left off the tiltle and between Conservs and Libs. I believe these to be reflected of the true figures The ones with the tilte in the names above, where the jokes about Dems are higher in numbers, are truly not reflective. You are entering info into a search engine which pulls everything that has the "hit" words in it. Even if they are just talking about jokes and not telling a joke, the page will be included in the total. The fact that the figures with the title of President in them is so different from other findings leads me to believe that the majority of these pages are created by the ones defending the subject of the joke or complaining about the jokes. When a derogetory joke is made about the president, usually the title is left off...."and Obama said....." "and then Bush ......". The use of the title President is used in defense as to elevate the person being made fun of and give back respect. This is just my take. Flame suit on.

Flame suit not needed, and interesting thoughts. In the "old" days you were definitely right that it was simply the occurrence of word "hits" that spawned search engine results. As things have progressed they have become more context sensitive to produce more "relevant" results. Such as:
republicans jokes about democrats 33,300,000 democrats jokes about republicans 30,700,000 or republican jokes 5,900,000 jokes republican 7,600,000
I certainly don't know what is behind the differences in the search engine hits above results but it does attest to some refinement, or bias, of search engine technology results.
And some final fodder:
Democrat jokes 4,940,000 jokes Democrat 5,530,000
Republican jokes 12,000,000 jokes Republican 14,400,000
Seems to definitely be more chatter about Republicans and jokes. This might just be reflect the younger average age of the internet users and their tendency toward more a more liberal thinking. I don't know.
Given our more mature population here at VRCC (my perception) we might just be on the other side of this statistic.
