Here are a couple pics of my HF chrome horns. The PO had added a second round bike horn at the stock mount. It didn't  sound very loud to me. When I took them off I found he had just striped the insulation off the stock wires and wrapped his new wires around the bare wires and taped them up. They were all corroded and not making connection to the second horn. I ditched all that and cut the ends off above the corrosion and crimped on new ends with shrink tape to trigger a relay for the new ones.

I put them inside the pods. Not sure how long the "chrome" will last. Not even sure if I like being able to see them in there. Eventually they probably will be painted black. Think I paid about $10 for them including the relay. Next time I have one of the pods off I will take a couple pics of how I mounted them. I have to tape up the wires better in there anyway. Getting good at removing and installing the pods. Seem plenty loud in the garage.

Looks good.  I put on a set of quad 139db Steibel horns under the bike.  I honked at a cat one time and it jumped a good 4' in the air.  The cat was at least 200 yards away.

Hi, everyone,

I bought this exact horn from Harbor Freight, and I'm having problems getting it to work on my 2003 Valkyrie standard right now. I removed the stock horn (which was working fine, and the horn button worked fine, all before I started this horn swap). I wired the new horn and its included relay according to the directions, which look like this:

The last connection that I needed to make was from the relay's 85 pole to the positive horn switch wire, which I had removed directly from the stock horn and not messed with any further. BUT, as soon as I make that connection, the horn sounds, without key in ignition or horn button pressed.

I am completely ignorant about electrical and wiring stuff. I'm actually amazed that I got this close to getting this to work. But now I am completely stumped. Is there something obvious that I'm doing wrong? I would assume so... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think that is the correct diagram. I did not tie 30 to 86. I have the original horn wires on 85 and 86. That triggers the relay. I can't find the correct diagram right now. I'll keep looking.

The horn button is not a grounding switch, it is energized and the horn is grounded.

Regarding the diagram:

1) Remove the connecting wire between 30 and 86.

2) Attach the horn button energized wire (at,from the horn) to 86.

3) Install a grounding wire to 85.

Here is another schematic. The factory horn had two wires on it. One is 12v when you hit the horn button and the other is ground. You put them on 85 and 86 on your relay. It doesn't matter which is which. That turns the relay on and off. Battery power goes to 30 and 87 goes to one side of each horn. The other side of the horn to ground. Again on those horns it doesn't matter which is which.

Here is a picture of my relay and a pic of how I mounted the horns in the pod. I used the metal bracket they give you and added another piece of strapping to stiffen them up.

For 10 bucks you can't beat those horns, I run those 2 along with my oem horn underneath and plenty loud.

Thanks to all for your helpful advice! Clearly the Harbor Freight direction sheet led me astray on the wiring. I won't have a chance to get in the garage and rewire the thing until tonight, but I will post the results when I do. Custom1, your setup looks good. After I get the horns wired correctly, I still have to figure out how I want to mount them to the bike. Thanks again.

Had a chance to get out to the garage and re-wire the horns, based on Custom1's description above. Everything works perfectly now. Thanks again!

These HF horns sound very loud and car-like. They really seem to be an excellent, under-used, $10-ish horn option for the Valkyrie. Hopefully, anyone who buys them in the future and has trouble installing them because of the faulty directions will find this thread in a search.

Now, I also spent a little time trying a few mounting locations. If I had an Interstate, I would try Custom1's nice setup, but I have a standard. I've read in a few other threads where people say they have mounted various types of horns to the muffler mounts under the bike. Does anyone possibly have a picture of such a setup? I think I want the horns under the bike, but mounting them to the frame crossmember seems to require drilling into that, and I don't really want to do that if I don't have to. So anyone have any pics of muffler mounted horns? Or other creative, under-bike mounted horn setups?

Use the piece of strap metal that came with the horns. and take off one muffler bolt 12 mm underneath and bolt it on it will hold  then bend it to fit where you want it easy.  Bring the wiring down the right side cover.

That does seem easy enough, and I will probably try it. But it doesn't seem like there is a lot of room for these horns at that muffler bolt area, because of the tire and the swingarm closely surrounding it. Would hitting bumps move the swingarm enough to hit these horns in that area?

Probably give you hell when attempting to jack the bike up with a motorcycle jack!
