Here's a question I haven't seen answered, if it was, 'scuse me. Been around since the beginning of this board, but that doesn't mean I'd remember if it has been covered.
Has anyone addressed getting ALL FLUID out of the cooling system? Including any that might sit in low pockets. I want to purge it completely prior to installing Evans. Where are any pockets, and how to suck them out?

Hi Mark
I too am going to switch to Evans this spring, so I have done some research on it. Evans has a prep fluid they recommend for motorcycles switching over from conventional coolant to waterless coolant. According to Evans it seeks out water and eliminates it from motors that do not have drain plugs so the good thing is you dont have to worry about all the little knooks and cranys, bad thing is it cost just as much as the coolant itself.
Somewhere on line I even found the instructions on how to use the prep fluid but for the life of me I cant find it now

I have an automotive Air Lift system that used compressed air to vacuum out the entire cooling system. Works well enough to suck all hoses completely flat, then using the same system to pump new stuff into the motor. It eliminates all the air in the system as well. Something like that should work to remove all the old stuff..

I use the Airlift system too. Its the only known way to completely remove all the fluid from the horizontal areas of the F-6 motor..including the hoses and other pockets. A lot of the Goldwingers use it after Wing World Magazine's Technical Editor did a write-up on it around 5 years ago.
Here is a quote from that write-up:
"There are two versions of the UView Airlift; the brass version (#550000 Airlift Kit) intended for professional (read "frequent") use. There's also a less expensive plastic version (#550500 Airlift) intended for more occasional or home use.
It definitely works.

Air lift was designed to get all the air out but it will not remove all the water. Unless you vacuum down to 28 inches of vacuum and allow the water to boil off for about an hour or so. If Evans makes a prep and you are concerned then that is what I would use, but I really dont think enough water will remain in the system to affect anything.

The Airlift will remove just about all the water/coolant in the system. You have to draw a vacuum down to 26 hg two or three times but it removes anywhere from a half a quart to almost a quart more of coolant that would never have drained out the "conventional way". But it may leave a few ounces of coolant still in the system. To remove every drop of coolant in a Valk/Goldwing might require disconnecting hoses, water pump etc. And there still may be some water/coolant left behind! If it were me, I'd use the Evans prep after I ran the Airlift through several vacuum cycles. Or, if Evans says their prep is good enough after "conventional draining", then maybe that's all thats needed.
