Looks like I'm gonna be slightly laid up for a short while. Probably two to three weeks. Got the bone plate and most of the screws removed from my lower right leg Friday. He had to leave one of the screws, it was buried in the bone and he said it would have increased my recovery time to much to dig it out. Hope I don't have to deal with it down the road when I'm older and maybe don't have good insurance. Guess time will tell.

The doc gave me the bone plate and 6 screws he removed. Maybe once I'm back on my feet and learn to use the tig welder I bought a while back I can make something for the scooter out of it. Seems kind of silly to call it a plate, it's way smaller than I imagined. 3/8" wide and maybe 4.5" long.

Was a beautiful day here today, heard some bikes roll by. I'm sure I could ride mine if someone got it out of the garage for me but, I'm sure it ain't a good idea so I guess I'll wait.

Spent the morning watching TV and dry-firing my 1911. Then the afternoon hanging with 3 of my 4 (soon to be five) grandsons.

The youngest, Lane gave me a hug and asked "does that make your leg feel better Papa?", and I gotta admit, it did. cooldude

I guess if this gives me some extra time to enjoy being a grandpa then that alone, is worth the price of admission.

Hope it doesn't cause problems down the road and you're back in the saddle soon.

wait a minute, is that doctor nutz? i would think you would want the recovery time increased as much as possible..
here is the statement,, "He had to leave one of the screws, it was buried in the bone and he said it would have increased my recovery time to much to dig it out. "
hurry up and get well,, the wind awaits!!!

Without a doubt one of the best things in my life right now is a hug from my grand-daughter Presley. Best wishes Mike for a fast recover still hoping you can make InZane I enjoyed the ride we took to Sault Ste. Marie last year during InZane.

I have the 2 screws and washers from my left leg (fractured tibia) from back in the early 80's that my son had used several times for show-n-tell.

I believe mine are stainless. Many are also made of titanium these days.

I had mine taken out about 7 years later, as my preference, since they occasionally caused discomfort when on that knee. Pictures at my second wedding show me at the altar with the then S/O with most weight shifted to the other knee... Undecided

My son has several screws, a rod and a bone plug. The doc said they could possibly be taken out later but he would never do it.

Speedy recovery!
