Is the stock alternator 40 amp ? How big a deal is it to " clock " the Goldwing alternator to fit ? Will the plug on the Goldwing plug right in to the harness ? Should I need a 85 amp that cost about $20.00 more on E-Bay ?  Anyone bought a alternator off E-Bay from the seller in WV ? He claims the one below is high output but I see them with 85 to 90 amp.

It is not hard to clock the GW alt rear housing just be sure not to pull to far off so that the brushes fall out. If that happens it is only a little harder. You push them back in and install small pins to hold them in while you push it back on. As far as the 80 plus amp I thought they were longer and would NOT fit.
I could be wrong on that.
Hope this helps.

Not a problem at all.  Just take out the three long screws that hold the 3 sections together.  Look at your old alternator and turn the front cover 120 degrees to match the old one and put the screws back in.  That's it.  Take the capacitor off if you aren't installing it on an Interstate.

Thanks for the comments  cooldude   Would it cause a problem if the capacitor  was left on and installed on a Standard ?

The stock alt. is 40 amp .A 85 or 90 amp.alt. will fit  I know because that's what I did and I left the capacitor on it..no need for it but no need to take it off either. I bought my 85 amp. alt. off E-Bay but not from the guy in WV. It's no big deal to clock the alt. the big deal is having to remove and install the new alt.it seems like it won't fit but it will after using all the right words.

The guy from WV has the best price for an OEM Hitachi made in Japan not that Chinese crap.  I just got one $228.  And it is a pain in the ass to get in many f bombs good luck.  Check where the hi amp one is made.  If you clock it just tap the 3 mounting holes w/a hammer to loosen about 1/16th" and turn it to clock it, don't pull on it.

Smokinjoe, there was sumpthing about having to install a more hefty battery with a 85 amp alternator if you go that route. I don't recall the specifics or whether it was more urban legend thing.
