My 1999 F6 standard has had a shifting problem since I purchased it in 2010. The dealer is covering it with warranty but has been over a year now, and still in the shop. New clutch, shifter drum, no improvement. Problem is hard grinding into second gear when transmission is warm. Most likely hard racing by previous owner. The dealer ( registered Honda  ) waited 4 months for the special tools to split the cases and inspect the tranny ??? and now is waiting on replacement gears and the main shaft.
Are there really special tools required to open the motor, and are OEM parts that hard to find?

A look in the manual would answer that question.

More important, there are special tools required to reassemble the motor.
