Well, I am having this problem again. It happened last season before winter. I know its been described before. I am experiencing a power loss as if I am running out of  fuel. I rebuilt the petcock and replaced the tank screen set this spring and it was good for a while.
The funny thing this time is  I took the bike to work yesterday, and I habitually turn off the petcock when I park her. After work I have a ten mile ride home. I reached down to shut the fuel off in my garage and I realized that I forgot to turn it on when I left work. I went ten miles with the thing in the off position. That can't be right. I turned it on and went out for a little ride to see what's up and it was starving for gas again with the petcock in the on position. I stopped and revved it hard a few times and took off thru the first three gears hard and then she ran strong.
This is past what I understand so I am asking the experts here for some advice. I did pull the tank last nite and I removed the petcock to have a look at my rebuild job. I didn't see anything wrong, and when I move the valve switch I can feel and hear it clicking thru it's positions.
If this is not petcock related, could it be something wrong in the hoses somewhere?
Thankyou very much in advance for any advice. Americade is coming and I goota get her ready soon!!
Take care, Eric

Sounds to me like a petcock or vacuum to petcock problem. You rev it hard and get on it hard thru the first few gears and you have plenty of vacuum to actuate the diaphram, but at normal cruising the vacuum is to weak. As for the traveling with the petcock in the off position, I had this happen to me too. I didn't bother with a rebuilt, I replaced the petcock completely. Haven't had any problems now for 6k on the new petcock. Hope this helps.

Gotta believe it is petcock related.....I don't think you will travel 10 miles with only the fuel that is in the hose.

Sounds like the other 1/2, the non rebuildable, is gone.  Try an all new petcock.

Your petcock isn't stopping the fuel flow as it should,, common with these,, and it certainly should be fixed before the dreaded fuel-lock happens.. It should run only a mile or so without fuel.. So, you have a couple issues that could very well be petcock related.. Why not just install a Pingel?? The starvation issue could also be the petcock, a venting problem, or a filter problem[ if one has been installed]..

Thankyou for the replies. I will most likely replace the whole petcock. I should have done this initially instaed of spending $50 on the kit.
Take care, Eric

Eric,

I was in a similar situation after I rebuilt my petcock. Mine had a slow leak. So I was faced with either buying a brand new petcock or going over to a Pingel. After hearing many opinions on this forum, I chose the Pingel without the vacuum. Supposedly, the Pingels have a better fuel low and now without the vacuum hose to contend with along with installing a quick disconnect on the fuel line, taking the tank off is much easier. The only thing you have to get use to is reaching under the tank to turn the Pingel on & off. No big deal as far as I'm concerned.

With either choice (new petcock/Pingel) I hope you resolve the fuel delivery issue.
