Don't threaten me with a good time

Just watched a special on front line on how for-profit college's are gaining profits from Veterans using there G.I Bill to gain a higher education. Schools such as

 American InterContinental University
    Art Institute of Atlanta
    Art Institute of Pittsburgh
    Capella University
    DeVry University
Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM)
    Heald College
    Kaplan University
Miami International University of Art & Design
    National American University
    Pittsburgh Technical Institute
    Post University
    Strayer University
    University of Phoenix #1
    Walden University

University of Phoenix is the largest and most common. I'm sure a majority of you have seen commercials and advertisement on TV and radio. They use the ability of "online based classes from home" Meaning you never have to set foot in a classroom during your time. I just talked with three guys I served with in the Navy who all attended U of P. After just 2 years of classes, all three of them have $10000-$20000 student loans, and there G.I. Bill worth around $50K was almost gone. With average classes costing around $1000 + materials, with no professors, or instructors present. One friend of mine graduated with an associates in science, tried transferring to another University to work on his Bachelors, and 10 of his 65 credit hours transferred over.

from my Facebook conversation-

Corey Chambers :yeah, I went to the University of Phoenix and I would loss the first weeks pay and the last weeks pay for my classes because their VA department would wait a week once the class started to report to the Federal VA and they would say my class ended before it actually did. Plus their classes cost $1093 plus materials a piece. I went for about 2 years and just gave up cause my student loans where already approaching 20k and that was just for an associates. I finally said "f&%k this sh!t"

I've been in school for 3 years know. This is my first semester at Southern Illinois, I believe the most expensive class I have ever taken was around $450. My average cost for semester is around $5,000.

The fact is, these colleges bombard you with emails, spam, and junk mail the minute they find out you are a veteran. HAPPENED TO MYSELF. They even have hired veterans for over the phone recruitment.

If you have graduated, or know someone who has graduated from any of these so called university's, Please feel free to post your comments. I'm trying to gain more knowledge of this situation to help my fellow veterans out. For parents of active duty service members, please talk to your sons/daughters about these places before they think about using there veterans benefits for higher education.
