Hey Guys & Girls;

I'm down in Brooksville Fl visiting w/friends.  I trucked to Ga and rode down here 2 wks ago.  Been out to Key West and back enjoying the weather and roads (trafffic, not so much)

Anyways, the reason I'm in the tech board is, I'm getting a noise from the rear end, a very light "thum, thum, thum, at over 30mph.  Then when I hit the rear brake, it sounds like something is stuck in the pads until I get down under 30 or so.

Can't see anything in there, but haven't taken it apart yet.

I'm hoping it's not a rear bearing, they seemed fine when I had it apart this last Jan.

Does this sound like a bearing going?

Thanks;
Bill

I'd be interested in knowing the mileage on the bearing when this "bearing" noise occurs.

Is there a clear and focused discussion available in ShopTalk on this bearing issue?  I searched but found many fragments of the discussion, including comments that say do it and others that say don't unless you have a failure.  A comprehensive list of steps and parts (with #'s and links to images) would be most helpful.

If there isn't one, maybe that's what we need.  I wouldn't be adverse to pulling it all together and having it reviewed by those who've done the mod if needed.

Yeah,

especially doing it four times...........

Sounds like poor installation if you ask me.

The only way to tell if a bearing is bad is to get access to it and feel it with your finger.

Now I know there are other limitations and ways to test, but with a bearing in the wheel, this is about the only practical way.
