Hey Spidy I got my first Valkyrie in Nov 99,second about 6 years ago and the third one 2 years ago. So,3 Valks in my garage and other than a couple of bad Avon tyres Nothing has gone wrong, Nothing. One key won't work last year in my gas cap,(My fault for not lubing) but other than that NOTHING.Not one warranty claim, just maintenance.
I think some folks tell of how much can go wrong for reasons I don't know  but in my case nothing.
Just take care of the bike and ride.

When I first started workin on my vehicles maybe 45 years ago........my Mom would stick her head outh the back door and say "you just had to touch it!!"

Haw....................I only fix stuff that needs it and if I don't have the right tools I buy them or pay somebody.
I've worked on many cars and bikes..........too many motors to remember but I have never rebuilt a tranny or a rear chunk......ain't gonna try nuthin I ain't comfortable with.

I'm sure y'all will guide me thru this one...........

Lets see on mine really nothing to worry about early on as far as adjustments
1.like valves if you get them right running good let em go for a while.
2.petcock problems early on as far as miles go it could be today or 25,000 miles but it will happen.
 3. Now on my 1997 155,000 and broke down with hydro lock right now to beat this hydro lock go with Dan and a good filter then forget about it with the shut off and filter if it fails (petcock) you should be fine as far as hydro lock.  Remind you your slow jets still can clog their talk about the garbage in the gas these days. I use a filter with 20 micron there good ones and better than the one I use. Time will tell I am waiting on parts again now slow jets just put in new float seats
4.the normal maint. Stuff is the money stealer.  Brakes tires did I say flats lol.
 5. This is my 3rd battery 2 Yuasa and one Wally world both got over 6 yrs so just replaced one new (Yuasa) this month.
6.starter button preventative needs to be done do it will save you time and a breakdown go to chets site it is all there check in the archives while were on the starter the relay will probably burn up and melt there is a repair kit available be ready it is going to happen be prepared.
It is hard to put a timetable on these item or parts to go bad but I can say it happens to most here.
7.lets see at 100.000 miles timing belts
8.alt brushes need to be replaced (preventative) mine were out at 65,000
9.yoke mine went out on me in the Canadian rockies bike had over 100.000 miles and I was riding real hard coming back from Alaska, 3 days down waiting on parts repair 400 3 days lodging food in Montana near glacier state park another 500 because I didn't do preventative maint and it cost me big time. The maint required was after 100,000 miles was just to replace ahead of time. Breakdown 3,000 miles from home hurts the padding in you wallet. A 85 dollar part 800 go figure
 10. On my 1997 I forgot the front bearing if I remember right early in the 2000 years went out. Replace new spring just to make my ride better now after replacing 3 seal’ sets, I guess I like to add to much fork oil, my bad! I think I got it right now
11.dealer use to change my tires on the bike and had to do it on the road a few times the rear drive and splines burned up stripped no molly put on the drive at all.
Now what to look at today.
Starter button – important to do now  – really need to get into the Dan marc thing with a good filter.  Search the archives ask all the question you need to there is always someone here that has gone through what your about to I wish I could put a time on things but I can’t

The yoke is a U joint on the output shaft of the tranny.

you can worry your self sick if you think about all the things that CAN go wrong on your cycle.  you know, you can slip on the soap in your shower, but (hopefully) you're still taking one!!  often times you'll know when something's going wrong, you'll know, or feel the differnce.  if you still don't feel comfortable with that, have another Valkyrie rider take 'er for a ride.

The fact is, the Valk is a prettier, faster, and simpler version of what is possibly the most reliable mototrcycle ever made, the 1500 Goldwing.  The engines can run for 3 or 400,000 miles with virtually no maintenance.  Even the parts that do fail on occasion are usually easy to fix.  You could replace both the U-Joint and left rear wheel bearing in an afternoon and spend less than $100 on the parts.  The only bad thing is that Honda doesn't build this incredible bike any more.
