I owned a 99 GL 1500 and had a problem with the speedometer cable breaking due to inadequate lubrication.

Any tips on how to remove and lube the speedo cable on my 2000 Valk standard?  Want to do this before problems occur.

Unscrew it from the speedo and lube it and screw it back in.

You take it apart at the wheel....Unscrew the phillips screw and pull the housing loose from the wheel....As you pull the cable from the sheath pull the cable through a clean rag...Then put a glob of lubriplate in your hand, and coat the cable with the lubriplate as you slide it in.

Yep, just remove and clean the cable, reinstall with Lubriplate or White Lithium grease..

Thanks guys for the info.  Sounds like something I can do to avoid the $75.00/hr shop fee!

It seems like removing the top should be the lube point. Maybe that is harder on an interstate. I've broke my second so I probably need to lube mine more often.

Hey Big...The IS has an electronic pick-up for the speedo.
