I learned I'm not as young as I once was these thing's will kill you  Wink
Rode about 5 miles this evening and plan to start riding this " thing " alittle more.
I bought this in 2009 when I came home from the hospital after busting my left lung with plans to just wear it out....That did'nt last long as stated above these things will kill you.I enjoyed my ride today it was cold with high winds but all and all a good ride.Sure wish Ol'Steamer was closer I'd like to run that pink Josie and the Pussy Cats model he rides  Smiley

I would only use one of those if it was delivered to the top of the hill so I could coast to the bottom.

I had a nice mountain bike......... I gave it to the neighbor's children before it got completly rusted.

Unfortunately, the treadmill in the living room still works.

What I learned about those things, is that as a young boy I always ended up riding one that was to big for me and that bar always made me talk in a high pitch...as I look back on it, it seems to me the one they called the girls bike should have been designed for us boys and the girls should have got that one.. Grin Now I would like to know if you wear spandex outfits and one of those little pointy helmets when you ride it? Grin...I did notice the little water bottle for those long trips... Cheesy

Rode those a Lot in high school, raced a little too on a county circuit (sp?) Biggest tips is to make sure that at the highest point of pedal travel, make sure that knee is at a 90 degree angle, if not it'll play hell on the knees.  As to distance/terrain, start small and get bigger.  Good luck.

Back in my teen years I had several in fact the worse I've ever been hurt on two-wheels was on a Schwinn 10 speed . Coming off a hill near where Big Al lives today letting her roll looking back to see where my friend was and hit a rain drain  Sad  Took a ambulance ride that day broke my collar bone ,both hand's injuried and road rash from hell.

Get some bar end bars. They let you alter your riding position.

http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/fix/bar-end.htm

I put some on mine. What a difference.

Don't do too much too soon. If you hurt you will not ride until you don't. Ride a shorter distance but do it every day possible and build up to longer distances.

It took me a couple of months to build up to a 16 mile loop last summer.

Haven't ridden the bike since cold weather arrived. Any warm day right now is a riding day. Once the weather warms up I'll be back on the nut crunching saddle.  Shocked

I used to ride 18.5 miles each way to work 3 days a week, and then would go riding for fun on the weekends.  Now that was here in Michigan where it's flat, not God's country, where Joe lives.  I used to get up at 4:30 AM, get to work about 6:15, shower and star at 7:00 feeling like a million bucks, then ride home.  Had a flat belly and felt great.

Then I got a motorcycle again, and can't find the time to pedal any more.  Keep at it Joe, a little further each time, and quit the smokes, that'll help more than anything (other than a little motor).

Down here in Florida I ride a bike every day. Being flat helps a lot. It sure is good exercise, and is a lot easier on my knees that walking or running. The apehangers keep me upright which is great for my back and neck, both of which are not in great shape. Using this bike, and doing weight watchers with my better half have let me lose over twenty pounds since January 4th.

Here is a pic. This is just like mine, color, handlebars, etc. Mine is in just as good a shape, but I don't have as good a photo of it.

I smoked several packs a day most of my life, started around age 13. Quit for a year once at 19 and missed it everyday. Measured my breaks at work by cigarettes smoked, a break was one and a half, lunch was 4. Tried tapering off, tried cold turkey, tried gum.

Finally quit cold turkey in 95 after doing the hypnotism thing and it was easy. Truly amazing. It didn't work for my wife but did for me. Never thought anything happened during the process, was just one of maybe 35 people in the room. As we walked out he said "throw your smokes in the trash as you leave". After spending $50 which I assumed was wasted I thought "what's another buck or two" and tossed them. Then I never wanted to smoke again (for more than a second or two) and never bought another pack. I'm still amazed that I was finally able to walk away from them.

Better to toss the smokes than to ride the bike.  Now if you do both you are going to feel better and the bike will be easier.  You may also enjoy your motorcycle rides more.  Best of luck to you!   cooldude

my brother did the "ear shock" thing. put electrodes on the ears, gave a very mild shock.

threw his pack in the trash as he walked out the door. been several years now, still no smoking.

don't have a clue how, but it worked for him.

When I found that that you had to wear one of those stupid looking "piss pots'' on you head to ride a bicycle, that was it for me. I rode a bike as a kid all over God's creation with no hat at all. I'll be cursed if I'm gonna wear any kind of helmet on a bicycle now! There are a few things about betting older that seem to be positive. One of them is that you get top a point that you just won't give in on certain issues or just won't put up with some kinda crap. To me, this is one of them. I have no idea why, but I just won't wear any kind of helmet or bucket on a bicycle. So there!!! lol  Grin

I got 2 of them damn things hanging from the ceiling in the garage.

1 10 speed, and the other is a 21 speed.  Daughter rode it in RAGBRAI once and we hung it up.

RAGBRAI is a ride here in Iowa from the West border to the East border.   I rode it a couple of times on MGM as a crowd breaker up.     The people putting it on decided that was too dangerous for the spectators.   We ran over a few toes in the crowd.

RAGBRAI = (R)egisters (local paper) (A)nnual (G)reat (B)icycle (R)ide (A)cross (I)owa.  The 1st ride had  300 people signup.  This year there was like 8,500 registered riders and a few hundred more non-registered riders.  8,500 riders is supposedly the maximum, but others get in the group and ride along.
