this has happened to me three times. two at a car dealer and just the other day at a local honda motorcycle dealer. i found a 2010 st1300 never titled at the dealer. so i went in talked with them took a test ride and when i set down to make a deal they quoted a price 13,777 and absolutely would not come down on the price. i told them i had financing already and all i had to do is do the deal and write them a check. what am i doing wrong with these people all three dealers let me walk out the door.

Nothing ,screw them an shop online to get a price.I don't think you will save a lot like when shopping for a car but if they let you walk you probably should not deal with them. They may also give lousey service. My son ownes a triumph dealership an he always listens to a good offer. They don't make much on new bikes they make more on service an parts.

If you're not prepared to walk, don't go in.  They know if you made an offer, you're likely to return with a counter offer.  Happens all the time.   I don't see anything wrong with buying from a dealer as long as it's a reputable dealer with a good servie manager.

Not everyone has the expertise to work on their bike and it's nice to have somewhere to go when you're over your head.   Having said that, motorcyles sales is no different than car sales, bottom line is never the real bottom line.  Their job is to stay as far above it as possible.

I don't know where you are located.

Southern Honda in Chattanooga, TN has some of the best prices available:

http://www.southernhonda.com/showcaseproductdetail.htm?ID=10946773&Brand=16&Type=1787

Their price for a 2010 ST 1300 is:  $13,777

So I'd say that the dealer quoted you a good price, but did a bad job of conveying to you that all the negotiating room had already been taken out.

I've been in situations before where there was no room to move on the price, but was able to get them to throw in a few "Extras" of some kind to sweeten the deal.

Our local Honda dealer is one of those that thinks that they are the only game in town.

A friend of mine tried to buy a 750 Shadow from them a couple of years ago and they wouldn't budge from the sticker price.

He traveled 20 miles down the road to another Honda dealer and saved $1,500 .
