Saw good price on an old Hondamatic on Chicago craigslist. At $550 it might be a good around town bike for someone's kid

Thanks for the post. I am in communication with the guy. I think we will get the deal done. My wife wants to start riding, but cannot/will not deal with the clutch. I have an old goldwing/sidecar combo. It won't fall over at a stop light, but it seems to itimidate both my son(16) and my wife. Maybe this bike will be a good intro.

always wondered what kept those from shifting in a curve...basically when you didn't want them to?

I sold my brother in-law the same bike, (same year and color) about 10 years ago. I had picked it up to flip it and my brother in-law decided he wanted it for his wife to ride. She never did ride to much but he still has the bike. It is slow but fun around town. It's really a torque converter so there is not a transmission shift in a curve. and if I recall right when you thottle down you have engine breaking

the one i had, had 2 gears,, low and high,,, you could take off in either but if you wanted a quick take off you would take off in low and shift to high about 50 mph.. no clutch just let off and shift...

I have a different model, 1982 CM450A, fully restored it last year, sweet little bike. Surprisingly, it can get my lard but to 95 with no problems. Mine is the same high and low range, even has a parking brake.
