Whoa, when I saw the title of the thread, I had all sorts of different "invasive species" in mind... liberals, illegal aliens, nanny state bureaucrats, ex-wives... never occurred to me it'd be fish.  Grin

That is hilarious.  Grin

I thought the helmets were a bit much, but it turns out you need a helmet and a cup.

I was hoping to find a video of "Lee and Tiffany" aerial bow-fishing on the Illinois river but it doesn't seem to exist on Youtube.

It's worth watching if anyone gets the chance to see it. Tiffany rocks.

On a more serious note, I don't think we are gonna be able to stop these fish.  tickedoff

I wonder if anyone has invented a para-sail with a fish net yet. Looks like that would be the way to get these guys.
A fish processing company just opened on the Mississsippi here in SE MN to process carp. We have alot of silvers in the river but I am sure they are planning on these guys getting here.

I would like to ride around and shoot them with shotguns.  If you can duck hunt there... you SHOULD be able to shoot them with shotguns.

VERY cool.

I can see it now... a bass boat full of drunk rednecks blasting in all directions ... while laughing hysterically... "Get 'em Leroy!!"  Of course I suppose you could limit the shooting to the guy on a wake board or skis behind the boat... I'm not sure I'd want to be the driver of the boat though.  2funny

Cept for the "drunk" part it sounds like a ball to me. Boating and alcohol used to go "hand in hand" here in Indiana but now I think driving and drinking in a power boat has about the same consequences as drinking in an on road vehicle.

If it was limited to bird shot which doesn't travel far it would be a good way to make sure the local raccoons stay fat.

Not sure but, all that lead in the bird shot might kill more than the intended victims.  Worth looking into though.

It's been decades since I've duck hunted, but at the time lead was illegal. Had to be steel. You had to get the birds a lot closer with steel.

Why feel the need to put it "drunk rednecks"? How about just good sportsmen out hunting?

Even though the law is was my profession, I'm a little unclear on this......... when shooting fish, do you need a fishing license or a hunting license... or both (are fish small game)?

I bet this doesn't come up that often.  (your DNR may vary)   LOL

PS:   I'd love to have a go at them with my 18.5" 870 with birdshot.  (In the front of the boat, not on skis)

Yeah... I was thinking two shooters... on on each corner of the stern each with about 165 degrees of field of fire.

No drinking.  Just a boat driver and 2 shooters.  Maybe an extra to load, as it looks like the action would be FURIOUS.

as to shot... I'd think lead would be legal... But if not... there are non-toxic alternatives.  Steel and hevi-shot.  Although LEAD is A LOT cheaper.

All we need to know is... what do the bow fisherman use?  Fishing License or Hunting License?  Ours would be the same... IF you needed one at ALL.  They might allow you to go at em willy-nilly since it's an invasive species they like to have GONE.

Now... it's Illinois, so you're probably not allowed to bring your gun, but we got 'em on the Wabash river here in Indiana too, and we're a gun friendly state.

I am thinking #6 shot... yeah.  that would be good.

Yeah, probably better in the stern than bow, so you're not taking incoming.

I don't know much about rock salt loads, but the cheapest spreading light loads would be adequate at short range (corrosive to the shotgun thou). Maybe even Aguila mini shells (if they work in your shotgun**)

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/255579/aguila-minishell-ammunition-12-gauge-1-3-4-5-8-oz-7-1-2-shot-box-of-20     **

Would be fast and furious point shooting fun for sure.

In Indiana you need a fishing license for bowfishing. Couldn't find it online but I think a hunting or fishing license is OK for taking frogs which is another fun pastime mostly enjoyed by the youth around here. I say youth just because I know it's been 30 years since I've done it. Smiley

Any kind of hunting over water has to be steel shot. Led will contaminate the water. I have to use steel shot for duck and goose hunting and am also limited to 3 shells in the gun at any time. Have to use a plug.

First of all, I can't see the archer's face but I'd hit it all week and twice on Saturday (Sunday is the lord's day, I'm not a monster!)

Second, I was gonna say this:

...would be my preferred method but y'all beat me to it.
