It's been a strange winter here in Wisconsin, while we have not been buried with snow, cabin fever is still making folks cranky, and the roads are still so salty, a ride is out of the question. What to do, what to do?
My youngest son has been bugging me to go to the range. We try to get there every once in a while, and when he asked again, I thought it would be a great way to beat the winter blues... Once I got off work (4:30 last night), I went home to find he had everything packed up and ready to go (an assortment of hand guns, and his favorite 'Tack Driver', a Ruger 10/22 that he and I modified). We headed out, and got to the (indoor) range about 5:15. The place was packed! 20 lanes, and a 45 minute wait! No problem, as they have lots of weapons for sale, and a staff that is only too happy to let you drool on, and fondle anything you desire.
Earlier this year, Wisconsin became the 49th state to allow Concealed Carry, and like many other businesses in SE WI, this particular range offers CC classes (required to get yer CC permit), most days of the week. There were young ladies, couples, dudes, of every age... Some partaking in classes, others looking at the myriad of weapons offered for sale, and many others just waiting for their turn on the firing line. It kind of made me feel good to see all these folks taking advantage of something Wisconites have been deprived of, for so many years. Prior to this year, you could walk in at almost any time, and have the place to yourself.
When it came to our time on the range, we got two lanes. I quickly ran 100 rounds through my still being broken in, BT380CC... Every time I shoot it I like it even more. It's to the point of 100% reliable, and I'm getting quite a bit better with my comfort/accuracy. I was good to stop after that, as the place was busy, and I would be happy just watching my son... He's got the 'young eyes' and the 'young hand' and is quite the Dead Eye Dick...
No special reason for this post other than to say we beat the winter doldrums, I spent some quality time with my son, and, from what I saw of the crowd at the range, Wisconsin is quite safe from 'Paper Terrorists'
