When children go out to interact with the public, they feel success when the sale is made. They don't understand political agendas or religious ideals. To them it's their first business venture. So when you don't but them, the child feels a bit of failure. Is it right to punish a child for the political ideals of their leaders? Buy the cookies and find another way of protesting the girl Scouts. Leave the kids out of the equation.

It's shameful that the GSA leaders are using these kids to push their political and social ideas. Plus they've held meetings where parents weren't allowed. In the meetings they've told the girls it's their right to go out get drunk, have sex and get an abortion afterward if they get pregnant. And you want to fund that Sandy?

It's a shame that it has come to this. I agree with both sides, The kids aren't to blame, I can't support some of the agendas the people up the chain are pushing. Before reading the OP's link, I bought 1 box for my wife and donated 2 to our troops, which I can only assume they get,(I have my suspicions at this point). Don't know what I'll do next year, hopefully I'll be too busy riding for them to catch me.
Life was so much simpler before I knew I was a religious bigot, racist, homophobe, lesbian. I wish we could all go back in our closets and quit trying to make us all accept thinks we don't agree with.

Well first, that isn't an "article" at all... it is an opinion piece written by a "Senior Fellow" at the Family Research Council. Some consider the FRC as a right-wing extremist organization. Some of the stuff that the FRC has advocated can be considered just a scandalous as this so-called Girl Scout agenda.
Frankly, I am beyond skeptical of all of this. This internet-driven gullibility on both sides has become completely laughable.
Seriously though, this Limbaugh, Coulter, Maher, Huffington "scorched-earth" type political discourse, which is now being played out in Congress as well, is going to be the demise of this country... not eveyone's concerns about their own right or left - fueled conspiracy beliefs!
Sad really.

It doesn't matter cause 90% of the profits from the cookies goes to GSA and used to finance their agenda.

I think it matters. Involvement with the GSA has been nothing but positive for my daughter. For that matter, I'm not so sure that the national GSA is as shadowy as all of this "information" suggests.

I am not going to hold it against the girl scout and not buy her cookies, because somebody has a problem with what management is doing with the money. I am sure there are people that would have a problem with either side of the abortion choice.

I'm in total agreement with ANVIL and PTGB. Both my wife and daughter, as well as my Goddaughter and her mother are/have been directly involved in the Metro Detroit GSA.
My wife was a troop leader, then a leader instructor, then on the Metro Detroit GSA counsel as a Facilitator. The GSA has always stressed individualality and promoted the speaking of their personal beliefs to try and give the girls more positive self esteem.
That "opinion" is colored with unfounded suspiction and lies. Believe it if you want, but that is very far from the real truth.

Those buttery tasting Girl Scout cookies are really good. I buy them every year, are they made in China too? If they are indeed made in China, I probably won't buy any next year.

The only thing wrong with girl scout cookies is that they are about 70 calories each and cost $4 a box...some of which only have about 12 cookies. Other than that, they are all good. My wife is a girl scout troop leader and has been for several years for both my 14 year old step daughter's Junior Girl Scout troop and my 7 year old's Brownie troop and I can tell you that none of those things that the "opinion" article accuses them of happens. The girls get so much money per box sold...the more boxes sold, the more money per box they get...and they use that money at the local troop level for activities for their girls.

well like Jabba I am kinda sour on Boy and Girl scouts both
I got kicked out of the Cub Scouts for being alone with a Brownie
Nothing happened we were just kids talking but it didnt matter.
Now its 180 degrees the other way go figure????
My brother became a scoutmaster so he could do things with HIS son Always at least 2 parents at overnites, meetings etc but they do fun outdoor stuff that many would not otherwise get to do. Portaging with canoes, camping in dead of winter hiking and learning self sufficiency and how to lead
I like the shortbread cookies and will take my chances if asked to buy a box I could not slam the door on any kid.
Not like I am sending money to Saudi Arabia by buying gas is it?

I agree....Buy the Damn Cookies....Eat The Damn Cookies.....Get Fatter and make a small child feel good about what they are doing. Of the many battles one has to fight in life not buying Girl Scout cookies seems so silly and a complete waste of battle energy.

yesturday i spent it with my son at boys scouts getting another merit badge, my wife was in St. Paul with ten girl scouts visiting the zoo. today i had three parents help out my wife who has been a girl scout leader for the last 12 years volunteering her weekends to help promote the "lesbian/abortion" ajenda. (that's what Cathy Cleaver Ruse might think). who ever thinks that the girl scouts is all about political agenda's is an a$$ hole. if you don't want to buy their cookies, good for you, you f-ing a$$hole, keep your right winged biggeted punk listening to rush lumphead, and how everyone else is going to hell because they don't belong to their cult. stories like the one listed above really tick me off (if you can't tell). my wife and i have spent hundreds of hours of our own time teaching little girls and boys how to ski, work with power tools, how to fix flat tires, or build a camp fire. WHAT OTHER ORGANIZATION DOES THAT? yeah, i thought so..... as a matter of fact, we had a neighbor girl come to our door selling girl scouts cookies and we bought three boxes, even though she wasn't in our troop, and we bought a couple from the girls that were just a few boxes shy of getting an award. (i'm sorry, that article really, really pissed me off. )

This right wing crap gets so damn old. I hadn't had a cookie "connection" for a few years until 3 weeks ago. (I moved a few years ago to a new area) Found out a gal I work with is a troop leader. I'm good now....cookie-wise.

How about buying the Girl Scout cookies because of the kids and the parents but let the parents know you dont like the agenda of the leadership nor the amount of profit that goes to the girls. Im sure if enough protest and are made aware they will change their policy. If not at least you made them aware why you may not get them next time. I hate to say it but there are alot of other groups that are like this. Meaning they present a good face but when you start to dig its not so nice. Know who your giving to its so important especially when you give out of a good heart and they use the money for the very things that undermine the ideals they seem to support. Its usually the ones that are doing the work that have the good hearts and intentions and work their butts off to do the right thing. But its the ones on top that may not be so altruistic.

I'm with Marty on this.... and there is no comparison/similarity with the Boy Scouts top leadership. I do my level best to never fund a nickel to any left wing cause period. And I don't need any expensive fat pills anyway.
Some people do business with Progressive Insurance too. I won't.
YMMV
