a fellow called in said he needed to find his water line from his 110 year old house to the pump house. the host directed him to a electronic detector. the next caller said he was a licensed plumber and he hasn't bought one of those machines in 12 years. he uses ...... wait for it....... divining rods Shocked ??? Shocked ???

I've never given much credence to using divining rods, I saw something on PBS back in the day debunking them for finding water. made sense because what's it detecting? the water table? (which is just about every where)

I thought it was odd

don't forget to throw salt over your left shoulder first, and wear your rabits foot!!  and when you're done getting that project finished, and you want to sell that house, bury a st. joeseph in the front yard!!   Grin Grin Grin

yeah, i'll believe it when it's proven to be more then 50% accurate.

several years ago, i needed the sewer line replaced.

the guy not only found the line but said how deep it was. he was right on.

he also found an old gas line that wasn't used any more. we found that a few years later while digging to plant a tree in the front yard.

You don't have to be a believer for it to work. I certainly wasn't. I was stunned as the wires turned in my hands.

If anyone is confident in their divining, or dowsing skills, here's an easy way to make $1,000,000:

Little write up on James Randi's experiences with Dowsing:

http://www.randi.org/library/dowsing/

(If you can prove dowsing works and collect the $, I'll be happy with a simple 10% finder's fee... Wink )

with brass rods, I can find lines (steel, pvc, concrete) or wires underground, and give ya and idea on how deep they are.  Don't know how it works, brass is not magnetic.... but it does for me.... it doesn't for some.  All you doubters can go dig up the back forty lookin for a pipe til the skys turn purple.... but it does work for me.
Of course finding water is something different....but around here it will be anywhere ya drill.
