in my little shed.... ...I took off the chrome covers on each side of the bike...the one covering the petcock, the one covering the ignition switch(that one was a severe PIA to remove)...I had to take the transmission cover off to get THAT piece off easier....the pods are off, and the spark plug chrome covers are off.... Mike Marshall is going to come over tomorrow morning and help me replace the vacuum hoses(my hose kit came in today).....I did pop the petcock vacuum hose off, hooked my mighty Vac up to it with an adapter, and it held the vacuum, so it must be one of the other vacuum hoses or one of those carb plug caps??....I guess I'll find out tomorrow

the battery is only 2 months old and is kept charged up constantly....the bike will try to start, but acts like it's not getting fuel...I checked the alternator and battery with a guage several times recently and all showed good....I'm hoping it's just the vacuum tubes cracked somewhere... I have this guage I want to install and it may be a good time when I take the tank off...

With another long road trip (Canadian Rockies) coming up next month, Id like to see if I should look at something else on the 10-year-old Dragon before we head out.

Just for grins........I would roll that half nekkie bike out to your truck....attach jumper cables to the batteries (LEAVE THE TRUCK MOTOR OFF) and see if she cranks.........I know, you think its impossible, but others have been fooled too.
Oh, you didnt say you looked at the fuseable link??????!!!!!!

I'm not sold on the "it's not an electrical problem" just yet. Does it act like it's firing but not quite catching? In most cases if you have a vacuum leak on those hoses, it will run....just runs bad and often won't stay running unless you really crack the throttle to keep the rpm up. You may well have a vacuum leak, but I don't feel that's the main problem. Keep us posted.
PS: I'm with Chris....check it out with a stronger battery before doing anything else. Always check the simple stuff first, even if it's new.

I agree, I let my vacuum hoses turn to crap before I replaced them and all they caused was some low level backfires. I'm still leanign electrical.

Sometimes you can just get carried away! When you find it. It will be something minor. Best way to learn these bikes is to dig right in and ask questions here on the VRCC. Let me know if you don't find it tomorrow and maybe I can talk you through it. Have you had anything done at a dealer recently? I had a Valk over the shop that supposedly a dealer worked on and there was only one screw in the bank angle sensor. I guess they left it out because it was a little hard to get to. The sensor slipped to the side a little and the bike quit. Came in on a trailer He rode it home and had his wife bring him back for his truck and trailer. He just couldn't put a running Valk back on the trailer. .JPG)

Maybe I did something wrong or I just got a bad one,,,but. The display stays on ALL the time the back lighting goes off but I would not call what mine had as back lighting more like "mood lighting for fire flys" could not see it beyond total darkness without lookin at it at an angle. would constantly beep everytime I switched any of my AUX lights on or off, oh and the best part was actually a noticable draw on the battery would drop the battery voltage about .4volts a day when not riding. Hope you have better luck than I did with mine. I read reviews and a few people say these are VERY sensitive to moisture.

Lots of failures on the cheap LED voltmeters.
Stan, you could hook up a small bottle of gas to the fuel line going directly into the carbs. No petcock, not nothing, then try to start it. If it still won't start, then know for sure that that part is OK. MP

the voltage meter
that when wet, the display would go out until it dried out again..I'm really only wanting it for the voltage feature anyways, although the temp would be nice...the I/S's already have a clock on the display.. I guess I could hook it up to where it only comes on when the bike is turned on?..I have a small lighted blue switch for my green LED lights and it only has a small battery drain usage... I checked my battery a few minutes ago and it was showing 13.6 volts...
