Lifes too short Ride it hard

« on: March 05, 2012, 04:30:33 AM »

I have gotten so tired of reading the political BS on this motorcyle forum. IT has run the gamut from our President (whether you like him or not he does hold an office of respect), to girl scout cooking being the doom of nation. Calling other board members rude names for not supporting your idealistic veiws. And on and on.
No I will not be doomed to the TECH. board only because I don't want to read the other crap that is being sprewed on this MOTORCYCle board. I will just pick up my toy and go on my way.  Undecided

The obvious question is why do you read the political threads? If I don't like a thread's subject, i don't read it. simple as that.

Hey Scoot, I know how you feel and I'm pretty sure you know it. But do me a favor and think about the good post's and good times forget about the politics. Ride with your friends and please continue to post and share your times in the wind and your observations. I for one have always enjoyed riding with you, reading your posts and looking at the pictures you put up on this forums. Your posts have always been positive, funny, enlightening, enjoyable and informative. We can't afford to lose good folks like you or we will all be resolved to read the trash from folks that normally don't even ride with the club. I am truly sorry we have so many argumentative, destructive, political bashing, idiotic and hateful people destroying the good things on this forums. Please remember it is a forums and some people just get their jollies by ripping anything good out of peoples lives. Sit back for awhile, in another month or so you will be able to take that beautiful red/white Valkyrie out of the snow bubble and ride again its supposed to hit 55* this week and that will definitely change your train of thought.

I have been a member of VRCC and a part of this board going back to 2001. We have always had people posting stuff that others don't like and the Staff has done a great job handling it when it gets out of hand. Fact is we all have different views. There are a few people who post that I don't read because I know it will just p_ss me off and I don't need that. But I am not going to let them drive me away from one of the greatest site on the web. I love Valkyries and the people who make up this club even those I don't agree with. I hope to be around for another decade.

Scoot,

I'm as firm in my political and religious beleifs as anyone you'll ever meet. I don't post as much on those kinds of threads as my initial response would tempt me do. And I have a few forum members on my ignore list as their posts tend to be more of the BS drive-by stir the pot type. The ignore option is your friend and it works well. Like others have said, don't read what you don't like.
Compared to many here, I'm a virtual newbie to the Valkyrie having only been around for around 5 years or so. But I sure have enjoyed meeting some of the VRCC members last year at Inzane and some VOIA members the year before in LaCrosse, WI. Life has choices, make the ones you can easily live with.

All the best,

Mark

Personally I think that political discussion (if kept civil) is a good thing. You may even learn something once in a while.

Of course if you don't want to take part then that's fine. But I won't be made to feel guilty for discussing the important things in the world.

I for one would like to see a "general" motorcycle board, and a "political/religious" board.  All things motorcycle related in the general, political and religious stuff in it's own board, and a third "catch all" that doesn't fit the other two.  I am a member of many forums that are set up in such a way, and IMHO it helps to foster a friendly attitude in the general board, without the passionate political and religious stuff getting everyone fired up .  There is still a place to discuss if you wish, and those that do not want to "see" it, won't.  I know I don't venture into those areas on the other forums just to keep my blood pressure down Wink, but when I see a political topic, sometimes I can't help myself...... Cool

I know it has been mentioned before, and I know that you don't HAVE to read the posts....but I don't really see a down side to adding a couple of more "rooms" for discussion.

NOT AIMED AT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR

some threads start out "innocent" but some have to take it political or religious.

to some people EVERYTHING, goes back to political and or religious.

and some just enjoy taking it there and then start call names when they aren't agreed with.

i see nothing wrong with discussing politics or religion, as long as it stays a discussion.

and not a session of name calling and quoting books.

we each have our own political and religious beliefs, so why try to change someone else's?

would you want me to tell you your "stupid" "ignorant" or any other derogatory word you choose, because your beliefs don't agree with mine?

mine are just as valid as yours. i'm just as wrong and right as you are.

i enjoy reading lively political and religious post, but at the first name calling, i leave.

my choice, i don't have to keep reading.  but, i won't leave this website.

but that's just me.  Smiley

An answer I think is valid: to try and save them from Hell.

People who don't want Jesus in their hearts have nothing to worry about, nobody
can cram Him in there against their wishes.

I like "religious threads" where people are praying for one another.

I dislike "religious threads" where hateful atheists pitch temper tantrums about how
so-and-so is a stupid neanderthal who doesn't deserve to breath the same air as them.

You can't please everyone, though, so I don't expect to be pleased all the time.

The VRCC has benefited me in many Valkyrie related and new-friend related ways,
I, for one, have nothing to complain about...

I don't like to see anybody leave a forum, Lord knows the once lively Michigan board is all but dead due to name calling and strife and people being intolerant of one another.  But leaving because of the subjects of posts?  I just don't see it.  Sure this is primarily a motorcycle forum, but there is more to life than just motorcycles (Women and beer for example and I like both).  I also like to joke and tease a little.  Politics and religion are also part of life and can affect motorcycling, and therefor should be considered relevant topics for the general board, along with ride reports, birthday greetings, updates on significant events in a member's life, etc.  Technical, there a board for that, too.  I look at the subject, if not interested, I don't open.  If a thread takes a turn I don't like, I quit reading.

But someone saying I shouldn't post anything other than motorcycle related subjects on this board is an infringement on my freedom of speech, and I would never propose that you could ONLY post MC related topics as that would also be an infringement.  When rude behavior comes into play, by all means, call it out.  But don't leave because someone thinks your choice for dogcatcher is a moron.  It's only an opinion, and you know what they say about those.

Since political, religious, and Secretary posts don't violate the rules of this forum, they are allowed.  As I said I hate to see anyone leave, but if you feel that is your only alternative, so be it.  I already have one fun governor in my life, I don't want or need any more.
