We're re-landscaping around the back of one of our Govt. Bldgs and they want a small, raised bed for growing some vegetables.....and as a hardscape feature.....this is going to be a stacked, textured block wall......
My poor back has been really sore the last week, so I wish I could wait to do this project until it's healed...oh well....my crew will have to work a little harder.....

I was able to use the tractor to roughly dig out the footings....with minimal hand digging......

We are going to have to stair step the end wall down hill to tie into the top of a retaining wall....that'll be the most aggravating part.....

We found that the 2" gas line going into the side of the building was very rusty.....the metal was flaking off, so we called in one of the Facilitie's Plumbers to check it out.....he wants to replace the line from the meter back into the building before we install the bottom section of the raised bed wall.....we could have done without that problem.....

It's going to delay part of the project until he gets that fixed.....in the meantime, I have to set up a transit and shoot some elevations.....pack the footings, add granite sand to about a 4" base.....then start laying block.....
I haven't ever installed these stacked blocks, but I have built more than a few crosstie walls in my time....getting the base packed and level is the hard part......then it's much easier to just stack the rest......the wall will probably only be about 2-8" blocks + a 4" cap block tall in the front(left side of the first pic) and hopefully only 3 Blocks + cap block deep on the back wall......
I had to tape the area off to keep the bums from falling into the work area until we can get it finished.....
