San Jose, CA. 1999 I/S 232 miles when bought 11/05

San Jose, CA.

« on: May 16, 2009, 12:09:21 AM »

Well yesterday morning on the way home from work 4:20am 4 lanes each direction divided by high concrete wall.

I was cruising at my normal head home altitude of 90+,,, or a bit more. Came around a turn on the highway to my surprise  :oI see something move on my right then my lights hit something on my left OH S#!t !! tickedoff! a full size Doe bouncing off of center divided wall and turning back toward the lanes at an angle in my direction,,, not sure exactly how many bodies were on the right side but I swear I could hear them freaking hooves hitting the blacktop on that side atleast 3-4 anyway I run directly through a small herd of Deer at 90+,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, OH MY GOD I survived... ran barely at 65mph the next 20+miles to the house.  And I prayed I think all the way home, crawled into bed still counting my blessings. angel

Please, all be careful out there you never know what is around that next turn in the road. Cool

Deer are real bad in WV.  Of the last 4 cars I have had, all 4 have hit deer.

I was running low one night on my old Virago and ran through a mess of em as well.  I was lucky like you and missed them all.

I had another friend who hit one while she was on her trike.  It nearly killed her with it's hooves since it landed smack dab in her lap.

How cruel! How could anyone kill such pretty animals?  Especially after seeing the movie "Bambi"!  They're one of God's creatures.  They should be protected!

Deer are a big problem here in Central Texas as well.  Hitting a deer while on my bike is more of a concern than CPLDS (Cell Phone Lane Drift Syndrome).  Since they are no longer a major food source, their population is the biggest it has ever been across the country and they actually cause auto damage that reaches into the billions of $$!  Also, they eat everything in sight which is threatening other species' habitat...not to mention my landscaping!

Some communities around here have tried controlling deer populations by trapping and shipping them to Mexico! uglystupid2  They'd be better off - deer and people - by just having the deer euthanized.  The meat could be used to feed the homeless, prison populations or sold to high end restaurants. Wink

I have only hit one this year...in my truck...no damage except for the fur and blood I had to clean off my front bumber. Angry

I lost count of how many deer were laying dead on either side of the road. What a shame. It's a waste of good meat, just hope no one was hurt killing those roadside deer.

I have read a couple of articles saying that here in Texas they are thinking about raising the bag limits and lengthening the season; hopping that may help control the population. cooldude

I'm not surprised Texas is having deer population issues. Years ago you could ask a rancher to hunt his land and go kill does at least, bucks if you were lucky. Then about 1980..everyone got the bright idea to sell "deer leases". Now it cost plenty of money to hunt deer in Texas. No hunters..lots of bambi's. Very few will pay $500 year after year for a doe only lease and buck leases are more.

Go figger.

I lived in Durango Co  19  years ago  , had friends who would buy old heavy car and drive  fast at night in the hopes of hitting a  Elk or deer and cut the leg off  and take it home

Yes I know my luck was being pressed,,,,, But then again we all press our luck in some form or another every day we continue to stay alive.

Thanks for the reminder but those deer were all I needed for the moment as a reminder.

Come on now I am headed home at that time 5 days a week, don't you push a bit harder on the way home than you do on the way to work?

This section of highway is very high-speed around the clock,, the Leo’s tend to let people run pretty hard through here and I have only seem 3 or 4  CHP's on the way home rolling in either direction in almost 4 years. Traffic moves over 75-80mph during evening commute in my direction and most run over 80mph even at 4:00am.

Again thanks for your advise and yes I have SLOWED way down since that morning, but I also have not driven anything but my 2002 F350xlt Dually Diesel 4X4 I think I am a bit more prepared to meet up with those FREAKING forest rats.
