Those Canadians have been known to drink pretty heavily.  I won't comment further out of respect for the Canadians I call friends.

Except for their big cities (which all suck, everywhere), they have very little crime compared to us.  Good on them.  I don't think they ever had a 2d amendment either.

Not that I agree with martial law for a little girl's drawing.   That kind of stuff has happened in the US too.

Count your lucky stars if you live in the USA.  I know crime is a big problem down there as I winter in the south , but to me your all FREE.    Why the masses have allowed this Canadian government to slowly move to a police state is beyond me.  For instance,  if an intruder breaks into my home in the middle of the night, threatens my family with a weapon,  and I hurt him severely and he doesn't survive,  I will be charged and do time for the rest of my life.

In a nation where firearms are banned (handguns), the cops had every right to think the girl had seen this image at home. Guns are on TV and she was making her Dad into a hero on paper. It sounds like no charges were filed after the search.

....first time I rode into Canada was when I was moving to Northern Michigan...I was on my State and my buddy was on his 97 Red n White. ...pulled up to the Canadian Border...there was one lone guard...he looked at us on our bikes and goes...got any guns ?. ...Nope !. ...Welcome to Canada !

.....goin to Americade in upstate New York we pulled up to the US Border and some dude that had a toupee that looked like a dead beaver on his head gives us the third degree about whay are we crossing here to go to Americade ?....ummmmm....cuz this is where we came through ?. ...Then my license wouldnt "scan"...they were the new ones that double as a passport at certain borders....we just gottem....were sittin there as I listen to this ass hat talking into a microphone going....their on a black bike ! ...towing a black trailer ! ...and His License WONT SCAN !!!!. ..then I hear some nitwit on the other end going...DONT LET THEM THROUGH !!...DONT LET THEM THROUGH !!!. ..he turns to me all chagrinned and goes...Uhhh...you,re gonna hafta pull around the corner here...I go...yeh..I heard...so I pull around the corner and park in this "painted square" ...with all kinda cameras pointed at it...and wait...I get bored so I whip out the camera cuz I see the...perfect photo op...then some idiot starts yelling to put the camera away...then some guy comes and makes me open up my touring bag...saddle bags...trailer....then he,s standing there..staring at my little blue cooler...so I go...ya wanna have a look see ?...and he goes...yeahhhhhh...I better...so I open it up to reveal a lone bottle of water and a Twix Candy Bar...and he goes...OKAY...YOU CAN GO !. ...and abruptly turns and walks away...then this female Guard comes up and gives me back my license and I say...hey...mind if I take a few piczzz...and she smiles and says...go ahead !...and walks away....so I get the camera back out and start snapping away and another idiot starts yelling...Hey NO PICTURES !!!!...and I go...well...she said that I could...and he looks at Chili and laughs and goes...who ?...HER ??...and I go...No...that female guard that just walked around the corner....and he looks at the now vacant corner and goes....Oh..OKAY !...and walks away....

....so I finished taking a few piczzz and hop back on the bike and we look across the parking lot at "America"...and I say to Chili...so how do we get over there...and she goes...just ride between those State cars...to which I go....No Friggin Way !!...These Bozo,s will SHOOT ME !!!!...

.....by the by....Chili had bought a "Cuban Cigar" in Canada for a friend of ours as a gift for helping with our BBQ...she stashed it in the little pouch hanging off my back rest....in plain sight...guy never thought to look there....

.....I,ll take driving into Canada any day over having to pass through.... "US Security"

Timbr - The border guards are individuals... I've had the exact opposite experience. As a young adult my family was going into Canada. My dad used 50 cal ammo cans as tool boxes, had been doing so for a LONG time, never thought anything of it. When the minivan we were driving crossed into Canada we were chosen for a closer inspection, so we pulled into the probing spot you described.

The Canadian immigration officer had us open the back hatch to the minivan, and upon seeing the TOOL BOX ammo can began grabbing everything on top of it and throwing it on the ground. In the process, he shattered several souvenir mugs we'd bought along the way (The Air Force museum in Ohio and the Corvette factory in Kentucky I specifically remember) and breaking other things to get to the ammo can. He could have just asked about them, or even just carefully gotten to them to see what they were, but he very deliberately threw everything in his way.

Would I go to Canada again? Yes... And have every intention of doing so. That one border inspector was an asshole, or he might have just been having a bad day, I'm not gonna write off the whole country for it.

As far as the original topic of this post - I disagree with Canada's draconian gun measures and lack of being able to legally defend yourself however... It's their country. Their country, their rules. Don't like 'em, but it's their business. I don't like when other countries poke their nose in OUR business (I'm looking at you Felipe Calderón), and I'm sure other countries don't appreciate us poking our noses into theirs...

i used to cross the canadian border twice a day  shortly after 911 and i never met a dickhead canaidian cop but 1 it was at the weigh sta on can 15 he gave me all kinds of crap for having my tag axle down while i was empty. at the time i didnt know any better and opened my big fat mouth.

"if you guys put as much money into the roads as you do into those uniforms i wouldnt have to have my tag down to smoothen the ride" that cost me a 4 1/2 hour delay (dont ever ask them how long it takes to polish them brass buttons)

All the cops up here carry guns and if you deal with the wrong one they will probably beat you with it.  That article shows just how wrong things can get when one dumbass makes an assumption and all the rest of the monkeys follow suit without asking questions.  Not one person decided to ask the father if he owned a gun, just jump to the farthest conclusion and go with that.  The problem is, this is very prevalent in both our countries.  We need to reverse these police states.

wow you don't have a 'castle law'? I'm pretty sure that goes back to Charlemagne and the magna carta. here in Florida I have the right to 'more then equal force'
Canada sounds like peru if a 25 year old 230lbs linebacker breaks in a home down there with a 4" knife and a 60 year old home owner defends himself with a 6" knife the home owner goes to jail.

why in the world do they tip the scales for the perp instead of against him?

None of my guns are registered and ALL of my guns are legal.  Thats part of the point........gun confiscation is what follows when the government can force you to register them all.  The last thing in the world we need is to copy England, Austrailia or Canada when it comes to gun control.  I just read recently you cannot even have a knife in Austrailia without getting permission, paperwork and then only certain kinds.....

We don't have to register long guns in Canada anymore. Our Conservative government recently scrapped the long gun registry.

I see, kinda opposite around here, they seem a bit trigger happy to some folks.  I don't call the cops much, so I have no opinion on that. I worked in police dispatch after I retired from the Fire department fo a while, I learned that it's always the dispatcher at fault anyway.  Hoser  Shocked  Grin
