I love my Valk Trike. I really do!! I've always wanted to have a motorcycle again and also wanted a good old fashioned Hot-Rod. This trike are the two all rolled up into one unit. With that said, why didn't they put a reverse in these Valkyries? I believe I've heard that the Valks which were initially made for the Japanese market came with a reverse gear. Why the hell couldn't that be offered in the American market? The older I get the harder it is to try to back-walk the trike, especially when I'm on some uneven ground (which we have a lot of here in Central VA). I often have to get off the trike and push her backwards. Have any of you heard of a source that might have the parts from one of the Japanese market bikes? And of course another question,,, would it be cost effective? I fear that as I get older, (and I seem to be feeling my years even more lately) if I want to continue to ride the wind, a Goldwing Trike or HD Triglide might have to replace my beautiful Valkyrie. I've dome more customizing to this trike then any other vehicle I've owned. It'll be a hard day when, if, I had to let her go. So there's my story tor today. Any thoughts, suggestions? Have a great day in VRCC land!

Tow Pac makes an electric reverse that runs to a rear wheel on thier bolt on trike kits, They may be able to rig something up to fit your Valkyrie. Contact one of thier dealers. http://www.tow-pacinc.com/Header%201.htmHoser ??? Good Luck

I highly doubt that it could be altered for a MotorTrike solid axle conversion, but I'll give them a call anyway. Can't hurt to ask. Thanks for the tip.

I believe there are options. The engine/transmission from a 1500 Goldwing could be swapped into the Valk if you are handy with a wrench. Several of the VRCC members are very resourceful. If you cannot find what you need to install a reverse, then somebody here can most likely design and make it. In the end, it might just come down to how much you are willing to spend to keep the trike you have versus trading it off for a Goldwing trike.
Hope you find a cheap way to what you are looking for. I'm not getting any younger. A trike might be in my future even though I prefer 2 wheels.

I've been told that a Gold Wing tranny could be used on a Valk, but I don't know anyone who's had that done.

you can use a gold wing motor but use your heads, intake, timing chain cover ,etc.
another option could be to have a pulley welded to your driveshaft and mount a strong generator/starter from a tractor. make sure it turns the right way. engage it with a switch and solenoid that cannot be run unless the bike is in neutral.

My Trike has a reverse, but it is not a Valkyrie.
My best suggestion is to not park in places where you have to push it back to get out.
If the parking spot is downhill, I swing around and let it roll back into the spot. Well, that was before my reverse quit riding with me.
I might also say that was my 2 wheel Valkyrie. My daughter was a passenger for several years and if we needed to back up, she hopped off, went up front and pushed the bike out. Bless her little heart. On the Valkyrie now, I avoid those situations. Pulled that stunt at one of the Puducka InZane. A couple of members pushed me back. DUH. I was a goof ball on that stunt.

I'll look into that possibility of seeing if a Goldwing tranny can be used.
I tell ya,,, I've relied on so many strangers to help me push her back on those uneven grades. Kinda takes part of the fun out of riding at times. And yes, I always look at the area I'm going to park her to see how I'm going to have to maneuver to park.

If you do use a GW tranny, remember you have to install the lock out circuit so that when you put it in neutral the starter can spin backwards. It keeps you from placing the MC into gear (forward).

I agree ,get a good fabricator or machinist to design a unit that will fit on the rear wheel with maybe a automotive starter. The starter will be disengaged while not being used an can engage when you hit the reverse button. It is a simple concept but needs someone to design the mounting.Cheaper than replacing the transmission i

http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum4/124915-6.htmlTake a look at this forum, starting at this page. This is talking about exactly how this old boy did it on a trike he is doing. I have seen several right ups on guys doing this with old starters and old gears done right here at the rear end. All and all, looks to me like your local shade tree guy or someone here on the VRCC could help you out with some kind of set up using an old gear and starter.

I seem to remember Dag (or somebody) posting a video of the Japanese version of the Valk......it's got a reverse. Although it's probably a long shot, perhaps you could find one of those.
