I've always thought the salarys of these government officials should be based on the average citizens yearly income.

As in remove the top 5% and bottom 5% of American wage earners from the equation, average the rest and give the president say 8 times the average. Give congress 5 times the average. Base their retirements on the average Joe's retirement too. If our average wages go down, so does theirs.

Then they would have a true financial interest in the average American worker instead the way it is now. Wealthy people concerned about wealthy people. I'd love to see how the Limousine League in congress and the White House would deal with that.  cooldude

They are just federal employees.  I don't mind higher salaries for Pres, Veep, Senate and House to attract qualified people (though that is obviously not working for us), but none have any business collecting lifetime pensions like that unless they serve for 20-30 years like anybody else (and term limits should make that impossible).
