I think it was also for more engine compartment room & to change the C/G for better traction. The tires of the "day" made terrible traction compared to what we have now. They needed all the weight transfer they could get. Kinda crude but it worked!  Cool

When we were racing Gas class, old run what ya brung days.

It made the vehicle stable on wheelies.     You could raise the front end up pretty good, and when it landed there wasn't that much for the wheels to buckle under on us.

When we had the regular front end on the car, it would usually waste a upper  control arm before the night was over.    We put the straight axle under it and ended our heavy maintenance after every Sunday night racing.

At the end of the season we would put in a set of king pins and be ready for the next season.
