I bought a 1999 Interstate in Nov 11 and have been doing minor maintenance on it since.  Lately I have noticed a bump feeling when the bike is idling and in neutral.  When I pull the clutch lever in it seems to stop.  The bump is erratic don't notice except when the bike is in neutral and no pressure on the clutch lever.  You can hear and feel the bump when it happens.  Feels like two pieces of metal touching.  Also when I pulled the lever in yesterday it smoothed out but made a growling sound like a bad bearing race or a rough spot on it.  The bike has 60,000 miles on it.  The bike is new to me so I am not sure what all has been done to it.  The oil and filter is new, been using sea foam to clean the carbs and replaced the O-ring on the intake manifold.

If I have to change anything in the clutch does the motor have to be pulled?

Make sure you're in neutral first off!

And I would suggest to not worry about it as long as the bike shifts Ok.

As long as no problem surfaces, it's needless to worry about that kind of stuff.

Sounds like a normal noise. Check it here: http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/#NOISE

The little bumping or noise is just the tran gears turning it's normal and not a problem. When you pull the clutch all movement stops so the noise and bumps go away. I've got almost 150,000 miles on mine and it's always done this.
