I thought some of you might find this interesting.  I mounted a 1943 Kollsman altimeter on my Valkyrie!  After all, if you are driving fast or flying low, it is nice to know where you are at!  Grin No, seriously, it is nice when riding in elevation.  The 'long hand' reads 100's of feet, the 'short hand' indicates 1000's of feet, and the 'very small hand' tens of thousands.  Also indicates barometric pressure.  Needs no electricity as it is strictly a mechanical guage.  It  is a real peice of history as it was used on some of the early WWII fighters and bombers.  Smiley    It has been cleaned, lubricated, serviced, and put into very good working condition!

Wish I had one now. Of course, living here in Texarkana, I could just get a picture of yours at 299 feet and paste it to my wind screen. uglystupid2

oh, I WANT ONE!!!

i like knowing my altitude, on my GPS i can set it to elevation, and it's usually about 10-20 feet off what the road signs say i'm at.  not a useful thing, but neat.

I like it!  And when you get pulled over for speeding, you can show the officer that you were not driving fast, but flying low.  The chuckle might save you a ticket.   crazy2

Very Cool!  Now I have something else to search for.  Like to see a picture of it mounted on your bike.

Nice to hear the positive responses!  Already mounted and in service.  There was no instrument lighting in the WWII warbirds, they did not want direct lighting that would give an enemy a bead to aim at.  The solution was to have blacklight in the cockpit and instruments that would 'glow' in the ultraviolet (uv) light.

So, I got me one of these.  It is a 3 pod ultraviolet led light.  It is mounted in my fairing so it shines diectly on the altimeter, and it shows up pretty nice after dark!

It fits pretty nice between the speedo and tach, and it actually creates a 'dark tunnel' so I can better see the turn signal light during the day!

Man, I don't need one of these as I don't care how high I am, my lungs let me know when I'm in trouble.      But, I'd like to have one.  That would make a good Fodder's Day gift,  hint hint mom.

Yeah, she will read this, she reads all of these I write.

That's neat. I have a turn coordinator that I want to put on my bike at some point.

Very cool! I have the "optional" data field on my GPS set to altitude, always been fascinated by altitude. And ironically my GPS is mounted exactly where you have the altimeter mounted. Mine might be fancier, but I gotta admit yours has a lot more class to it!

I remember watching our (U S of A) "propaganda" movies from  War II. If it was an airplane type war flick somewhere in that movie an aircraft would be put in an almost vertical dive and they would keep cutting back to the altimiter shot as it unwound from 10 20 30 thousand feet. You sir have the altimiter that hollywood made famous. coolsmiley Way cool and i want one and RIDE SAFE.

FANTASTIC!  With all those gauges, it already looks like you are in a cockpit.  I am "officially" jealous.

Beware of any altimeter on EBay advertised as "calibrated" or "accurate". I highly doubt it's either.

Yeah, I gotta be more careful with my camera angles!  Grin

I understand the caution with fleabay,  mine was not a one of a kind item from a random seller.  Undecided
I did acquire this on fleabay, and barometer man is his store, out of Grand Junction, CO.  Very good guy to deal with, knows his stuff.  He does have training, works on, and tests out his ships barometers and altimeters. Have used it a couple of years with no issues and it is dead on accurate.  Not trying to commercially promote something, but he seems to be a reliable source, if anyone is looking.  cooldude
