Just picked up an OEM air filter for the bike.  Why does Honda add the metal screen to the filter?  I've always cut them off as I think they reduce air flow.  They did the same on the Wing's filter.  Anyone else do this?

seems like to me its a safety feature.  If everything else fails nothing bigger than the holes in that screen are getting into the motor, and I dont see that metal screen stopping much air at all.  If I made you a screen parachute out of that same material would you expect to hit the gound any softer than if you had nothing?  LOL

If you store it over the winter and the garage has mice, the screen may keep the mice from chewing on the filter element.  Hoser

Chris - I saved it for you.  Send me your address and I'll put it in the mail so you can start your parachute.
You can feel the restriction when you blow through it.  The old one was pretty dirty, so this should make a (hopefully) noticeable difference.

I was a little apprehensive pulling the tank for the first time, but it wasn't all that bad.  It actually went pretty smooth.

Hoser -the screen is on the bottom side.
