Hoosiers may remember that a few years ago our high court declared that no citizen had the right to defend themselves from rouge law enforcement officers under any circumstances.

Not too many years ago a county deputy barricaded himself in a local home not far from me. If he had escaped that home and come to mine, it would have been illegal for me to defend myself or my family from him under current law. Obviously I would have defended myself and family no matter what but it would have been illegal for me to do so.

I think this is unjust as does the NRA. With the help of the NRA a fix for this has found it's way to the Governors desk and is waiting on his signature.

Below is the "E" mail I sent him concerning this bill, labeled SB1.

"Governor Daniels,

Not too many years ago and not far from my home a Clay County Deputy barricaded himself in his home. The local neighborhood was evacuated and many law enforcement officers were involved in bringing this to a safe close.

Under current law, if he had broken into my home or family car while trying to evade arrest it would have been unlawful for me to defend myself and my family.

This is dangerous and unjust. Please sign SB1 and fix this oversight in the law."
