That is great! There is a very old guy i know that flew these on many missions from UK over France and Germany.  He brought in about 6 that were so shot up they were put out of service, once landing in UK after being shot up over France and when he landed an engine fell off.  Most of the crew on those planes didn't make that many flights because they got shot down so frequently.

A real hero, with amazing stories.  Enjoy your time up there and think of all those in the past.

MODIFY:  Pretty sure guy i know piloted B17, sorry.

Awesome.....something I've always wanted to do.   There is a restored B17 that comes to the Hooks airport I think every year in the Houston area and last I checked it was $400 for a 30 minute ride.   Tried to get my brothers to go but no takers.    I think it would be neat to ride in one......have fun and take pics.

What you are doing is sooo extremely rare. What a great opportunity. True only 1 airworthy B-29. I believe there are about a dozen airworhty B-17 flying today.

Well,,,,Its tomorrow.
Is "FIFI" no longer flying? I saw her last year on the tarmac here in Tucson warming up.
Man youre gonna love this. I'ver been in several B-17 and a B-24 but never the big one. My neighbor was a B-29 Co-pilot in WWII and saw Japan alot. Never left is he found it though.

My brother and I flew in a B-17 a few years ago. It was much more than a ride! We were allowed to freely roam the plane in flight. Everywhere but the tail gunner position. Just do it! Totally unforgettable. The visuals, smells, sound, vibrations, and thinking about all those that were being shot at while doing so. I got it all on an HD camcorder with 5.1 sound. It turned out absolutely great. In my home theater with butt-kicker seats you can feel the engines all the way down to their last revolution on the tarmac. I feel that sooner-or-later insurance issues may end this and the opportunity will be gone.

Just think about taking off while looking out of the greenhouse windows; 360 vision, four engines pounding against the air all at a sound level that makes conversation impossible. Low level flight, crawling between the bulkheads, standing just behind the pilot, poking your head into the observation bubbles, sitting in the bombardiers seat and peering out from the gunners positions. Totally visceral.

i like the "NO SMOKING" signs, and the fire extinguishers!!

i had the luck to flag in a B-17 when i worked at the airport, my co-worker got to do the B-29.  there was an airshow in Oshkosh, and they landed in Eau Claire for a photo opt.  after wards we were aloud a walk through.  can't imagine being able to fly in one, LOUD LOUD planes!!

Well there are quite a few "airworthy" (inspection currency not withstanding) B29's around in museums and collections but how many are actually flying might be another story.

Cool .... very jealous  Smiley

Makes you wonder in today's world of 3D software and numerical controlled CNC machines and whatnot how they were able to pull off making machines like that B29 .... makes you appreciate what they were able to do back then without today's technology !!  Truly amazing.
