No matter what you've asked you've been given a number of possibilities and possible solutions. As I've read the ideas and solutions I've built up a kind of mental trouble shooting guide. Today I came back from my 2nd short ride of the season, parked my bike, turned it off and went into the house for a minute. I came back and tried to start it, nothing. Key on, kill switch in proper position, no neutral light or any lights period. What could it be? And then all the possibilities I've read about on the board started going through my head like an index. Starter switch, ground, kick stand switch, neutral switch, clutch lever switch. Rocked it back trying to pop clutch and light would come on, push starter button and light went out, hmm. Battery dead? Fully charged  2 days ago. Pulled seat to access battery, and checked connections, positive a little loose, tightened it , green light and away I go. All of 10 minutes from start to finish. Thanks in a large part to those who have asked questions allowing those who have the experience to give us all ideas. A great big thanks to all. cooldude

Quicksilver, if the light going out when you push the starter button was the headlight, I think that's a normal condition...to cut down on the battery draw while the starter is drawing current.
