I got my valve and fuel shut-off the other day and have a couple questions. I bought the brass hose barb couplers for the Dan Marc- should I use teflon tape or some sort of thread sealer on those? I usually think of teflon tape for plumbing, and don't know how it will react to fuel. For the Pingel extension, should the pipe extension be copper or brass? Also, should I use regular plumbing solder to sweat the joint? Again, I'm wondering about the integrity of plumbing solder immersed in fuel. Thanks for the help!

Just got mine too two days ago. I plan on using yellow Teflon tape at my joints and make sure it won't interfer with the gas flow. Most connections that come in contact with gas are brass that I'm aware of. I don't know what to say about the solder. How are you going to wire up your fuel shutoff? Good luck on the install

I'd recommend Permatex thread sealant. You should be able to easily find it at an auto parts store. Teflon will lubricate your threads and allow them to seal but if you're not careful little bits of teflon may get loose and end up in your fuel filter.
I'd also recommend using brass tubing when modifying your Pingel. Regular plumbing solder and flux is fine. No matter the type of flux I'd clean it off after soldering. In general its corrosive and will be in your fuel system.

I just finished installing a Dan-Marc 152 on my I/S last week. I used one wrap of 1/4" teflon tape on the brass fittings and they tightened up with ease with none on either end of the threads. Used 1/2" hose clamps on the hoses instead of the pinch clamps. I powered the Dan-Marc through a relay that is triggered by the common positive (black/white) wire that goes to all three ignition coils. It is my understanding that this will shut down the Dan-Marc when the ignition is turned off, the kill switch is tripped, or the bank angle sensor is tripped. The relay may be overkill, but it seems that I read where someone had a high speed miss when getting the power for his Dan-Marc from a coil wire. Anyway, I have encountered no such problems and the little extra work was no big deal. I rather enjoy working on Valkyries. Now, what can I do next?...Jim

It looks like you put a fuse in also- how big? And the relay, just a normal 30 amp?

Pharmboy - I'm the one that had the high speed miss. The problem was when I powered the solenoid directly from the coils. I like what you did for all the reasons you mention. Good advice.

JetDriver, I tapped into a wire going to the driving lights for power. Don't remember the fuse size, probably a 10 or 15. I didn't even look. The wire was a 16ga, so I didn't figure that the small amount of power used by the Dan-Marc would cause any problems. Yes, 30A relay...Jim
BonS, I did tie into the common positive (black/white) wire on top of one of the coils. Since all three coils get their positive wire from the same source, the meager amount used to activate a relay should cause no problems...Jim
Guys, I have no official training in the electrical field other than a lifetime of wiring up boats (spent about 3 yrs at it as a youngster), and adding accessories to cars, planes, and motorcycles. And I know just enough about AC that I can usually take a book and get by... Jim

Thanks for this thread guys. With the info here, I was able to get my new dan-marc installed successfully. I went with the simpler model, which does not include the magnetic particle/fuel filter. Also I was unable to find the brass fittings needed at my local hardware store to build the T. Instead, I just put a brass male hose barb on each side of the valve. Trimmed the fuel line appropriately, and installed a relay using the same method as pharmboy. For the relay's "signal-on" wire I used the black and white wire on top of one of my coils. Works great. I used blue permatex for thread sealant. Here's a birdseye view. Thanks again.
