Went out for a ride today, smelled burning rubber, and found the right side of my tire
had been rubbing on something. Got back to the garage and found the bottom mounting
eye/bolt from the right shock broken off. Well I guess we need new shocks now, old ones
are Showa, OEM I assume.  This is my first Valk so I thought I would ask for your help
as to what to replace them with.  97 Standard w 20K on the clock.
Thanks

I just replaced my Std. shocks with those from an Interstate. MAJOR improvement!
If I couldn't find a set of I/S shocks I was going with Progressive 440's. cooldude

I like my 440 by Progressive with the chrome end caps and HD springs the length for the them is 12.5. Look good ride good and can make a passengers ride much more pleasant. Dont ask how I know lets just say when the wifes not happy no ones happy.

interesting, makes you wonder if it was loose from some prior work.  That bolt has a large shank and small threads.  Most folks that change, go with the progressive shocks.

I have a few extra sets of oem shocks off the bay.
About $50 per pair.
if I was buying new shocks, works performance would be my choice.
Compare the quality to the generic parts that progressive uses.
Like comparing a corvette to a pinto.
Progressive suspension can eat #$%^&.

I replaced the OEM shocks on my '97 tourer with Progressives at about 100,000 miles.  They were the grade lower than the 440's.  The ride was much better.  Then I traded my '97 with 134,000 miles for a 2000 with 6,000 miles and found the ride to be much better.  My plan, when I feel the need to replace the shocks that are now on my 2000, is to find some slightly used OEM's.

I just put the new Progressive 430's on my Valk.  Check them out, very different and I love them.
