2000 Valkyrie Interstate

Olathe, KS

« on: March 17, 2012, 08:07:10 PM »

I'm considering the General Altimax HP 205/60R16 car tire for my Interstate.  Does anyone know of a tire shop that will install a car tire, even if you didn't buy the tire from them?  Failing that, where can I get a good price on a General tire and have it mounted at the same place?

Thanks,
Steve

I just take it to my Honda dealer.  If problems, tell them for a sidecar or trailer.  Usually hard to get mounted where you buy, because they usually cannot mount on MC rims.  Wrong equipment.

That would be a question for Willow up there.  I know here in Salina, my Yamaha dealer does it for me no questions asked.

There is a guy in Springhill KS that does it in his house. I had him put a front tire on the trike and asked him if he would mount a car tire. He said a tires a tire. $20.00 per tire. Must be off of bike.

Springhill will be closer for you, but I would highly recommend Tim Wolfe of Motorcare in Lawrence.  He's an independent motorcycle shop.

He has a website at http://www.motorcaretim.com

Tim takes good care of the old guys of the romeo club, puts lots of ct's on the big ol scooters, I don't know about ct's on Valkyries, can't imagine why he wouldn't.  I prefer the light side, but buy my tires from Tim most of the time.  He is one wrench that knows how to do maintenance on the final drive, and will tell you about it if you didn't do it right! Don't ask how I know.  Grin    Hoser

Willow,

For some reason I am thinking that he won't put a car tire on a motorcycle rim because he doesn't think it is safe.  I am not sure who I heard that from but some one here in Topeka, it seems.  I am in the process of building a tire dismount setup.  I have all the parts just gotta build it...

Joe, it's good to hear you're getting equipped to do tire mounting.

Tim is indeed opposed to the idea of running a non-motorcycle specific tire on a motorcycle, but he's willing to mount them and does excellent work.

Yep I am looking forward to doing my own tires and yes I second that...  Tim is an excellent mechanic, so many around here speak very highly of him.

I guess we have been pretty lucky here, the local shop will take care of us and our tire needs.

I plan on buying a tire machine, but im not in such a hurry with the local shop willing to do it for me.

I know car tires work well on Valkyries, just didn't know if Tim would mount them. I   prefer the light side myself, and I get them from Tim, so it never came up.  Hoser  Wink
