Chiko and I headed out for a ride today. First time in weeks winds weren't over 25 mph, sun was out and temp was 43 degrees. Before heading out of town I decided to swing through a brand new housing sub division on the ritzy side of town..while cruising along at 20 mph I started getting this noise I thought was rocks picked up from the road, then it was bad enough to feel. Pulled over to check things out noticed the tire was rubbing on the swing arm..it was always close but had not rubbed in over 15K miles. The way it was sounding I firmly believe I had a ujoint going belly up..on the way back home at 10 mph I went thru a traffic circle and the noise went away when I leaned right and came back hard  leaning to the left..jerked it back to the right and took any turns really slow so as not to be leaning any more than necessarr..made it home..
Put her up on the jack, in neutral, turned the wheel by hand and could hear the grinding in the wheel or differential.. Pulled the wheel and the left wheel bearing was toast.  A couple of the balls were gone with the strap holding them in destroyed.
Thanks to the tech talk and known problems I actually had some bearings and seals on hand.
Two and a half hours later I was back out on the road, with my usual smile...
All thanks to the VRCC
