2000 Interstate, 2001 Interstate and 2003 Standard

Fort Collins, Colorado

« on: March 19, 2012, 01:18:19 PM »

I'm looking to buy a 2000 IS and every other one I've seen has an Interstate badge on each of the saddle bags except this one. I was wondering if the badges are stick on or if that are affixed with some type of push in retainer in some holes in the bags. I’m concerned that it may have been damaged and repaired. It’s at a dealer and they are closed on Monday so all I have to look at right now are the pics on their web site.
Thanks in advance!

They stick on with 2 sided tape.........

If they're missing????? could be several reasons, but as far as I know they were standard.

As stated, double sided tape.

If they're missing it's a virtual guarantee the bags have been repainted.

Mine are not there.  I like them that way, but then my bags have been repainted.

I caught the tail of the e and broke it off while waxing it.  I've been thinking of removing mine.  Some like it clean looking, so it doesn't mean the bags were repainted.

Like said above, less is better.  I took the 4x4 off my pick-up and also the Ecoboost badge.  If the truck had a flexfuel badge, that would have been gone first!  Maybe I'll put the ecoboost where the Interstate ones are..... That will raise an eyebrow or two.

One thing you can check is the bag hinges.  Tourer bags are hinged at the front (and have a seam down the back).  Interstates came later, and the Tourer hinges would not work cause the lids would hit the trunk, so the hinge is replaced with a clip (and the bags are held by two cables to rest over on the side of the bag when off) (and IS bags have no seam in the back).   Maybe the IS lettering has just been removed (like on mine), but if the bike has Tourer bags, one might wonder why.... like an accident.
Though the majority (but not all) of accidents only trash one side, not both.

Mine are gone also, along with the Valkyrie on the trunk, Never damaged, just got tired of pulling the little strings from the waxing rag out of the letters and using a tooth brush to get the wax out of them. like Canuck, all the badging is gone from my truck too!

The Interstate names on the bags were the first things to go along with the Honda on the Windshield Garnish and the Tank badges. Oh, and I think it said Valkyrie on the Trunk also.
Hard to remember since they came off the first time I put a coat of wax on back in 1999...

Hmmmmm....I took the "Interstate" lettering off my bags.

They haven't been repainted.

I took them off because I got tired of my towels getting caught on them when washing and waxing.

I took he letters off the back of the trunk for the same reason.

Apparently I stand corrected.

It appears I'm not the only one who doesn't care for extra badging.

If its the Red and Black I/S , looks like it has been totally de-badged.  The tank badges are missing as well as the "HONDA" badge on the fairing trim.  You can't see the back of the bike in the pictures, but I'll bet the "VALKYRIE" is missing from the trunk lid.

The ad says CB, I don't see a CB antenna in the pictures. Could have a splitter that shares the radio antenna. $500+ to add a CB later if it matters to you.

Any other questions PM me

I have had several IS owners tell me they have the CB.  I see no antenna, so I ask them if they use it.

No, but it is there because it says CB on the LH controller.  LOL

I then explain to them they do NOT have a CB.  Just CB ready!  Easy mistake to make, if uninformed.

agree with the postings stating the badges may just have come off.  It can be a pain to clean around the taped on badging with strings of cloth always getting caught in the letters everytime I wax around them.  I'm surprised they don't come off easier but try to be careful to not rip them off while cleaning.  I personally like them on there, but would not hesitate to take them off either if a letter or 2 broke off.  You can easily see the 2 black plastic cables attached to the outer sides of the bags when opening them.  Just make sure you don't make a mistake like I did and rest the cover on the side of the bags hanging down without the rubber/plastic prong covers on the inside of the lids, it will scratch the sides of the bags a little without those 2 protective covers over the 2 tabs/prongs.

The older Wings had the same kind of lids with NO cables or strings.... Had latches on both ends..... most guys including me had to buy aftermarket tethers.... also you had to lock the front and the back..... The Interstate clips in the front are an improvement after dealing with the Wings bags for alot of years.....

Know alot of guys that had lids fly off because they forgot to latch them.....

Pretty nice ride. 38k, lots of chrome added, a few minor scratches that need buffed out, but no evidence of any repairs that I could see besides minor biff on the right crash bars. As mentioned by DenverDave and MP, no CB antenna = no CB. Brand new Metzlers, I have a $650 receipt from a local independent MC repair shop for: new oil (synthetic), filter, plugs, diff oil, brake pads (DP, not Honda), valve adjust, fork seals, coolant, brake, and clutch flush. Owned by a local “older guy” –like me  Shocked who said the splines have been lubed –we’ll see…
Runs and handles just great. I’m very happy to add it to the garage next to my 2003 standard. Can’t wait for Inzane!

When I bought my 99 I/S, none of the badges were on there.  I like the clean look.  I bought a couple of tank badges from a friend and thought about putting them on, but after careful consideration, I decided to leave them off.  I thought using a splitter on the radio/CB would cause some sort of static?  I have a CB and have both of the antennas.  When I was looking, I ran across a few sellers that advertised CB radio.  My first question was how many antennas are on the bike.  Some would say one, and right away they would tell me it was able to have a CB installed.  I have been wrong about many things before, so I am curious about the splitter issue.

It's not a problem.  Of course, you do use the CB antenna as the single pole.
