Finely getting around to taking the class for my CCW. I found a guy that runs a small class and instead of one ten hour class he does three four hour classes. I've put this off to long, now to go shopping for a new carry. Guns and bikes are always fun shopping..

I was a armor way back when in the Marines and worked on thousands of 1911's so I'm thinking a Kimber ultra carry. I'll have to go look at one and see but leaning that way. Suggestions on a holster for the belt. What is the best way to carry in the back or what. I would think warm weather will be a bit more of a challenge.

I have this and like it fine.  I would not get a shorter bbl than 4" for 45acp; an inch longer bbl gives better reliability and velocity, and is no harder to hide than a 3" bbl.

I have an  IWB Alessi Hideout. http://shop.alessigunholsters.com/Belt-Holster/Hideout

But really there are so many new polymers, blade techs, etc that are much cheaper.  Or supertuck delux.

My CCW instructor carrys his Kimber Ultra Carry almost full time.
He prefers a leather pancake holster at 3:30 position with a forward cant.
Fortunatly, untucked Hawaiian style button up shirts are always popular in warm weather here in NorCal.
I also have about four 5.11 concealed carry shirts: http://www.511tactical.com/All-Products/Shirts/Concealed-Carry.html
They've made snaps on the front of the shirts to look like buttons. And the extra long shirt bottom is split on the sides with velcro closure for easy access to weapon on the side.

Just finished the last class for my CCW with 3 hours of range time, what e a fun class and great instructor. About half way through a friend of his comes over with his mp5 full auto and gives us some instruction and a 20 round clip. I haven't done full auto in 35 years that was fun. I joined the club and can't wait to get the wife out for some date night at the range. The range is all indoors and they have a 100 yard rifle range. Should work out great. Thanks Jess and herc for the input. I think Kember will be a good carry and range gun and after looking I agree on the 4' barrel. They are pricey though.
What a great night I may be up awile tonight. Can't stop talking about it.

Don't rule out used. Like bikes, many are purchased, kept in good condition, and hardly used.

I am also partial to series '70 colt commanders (alloy frame) 4.25 bbl, but full length/size grip/magazine.

This is my Taurus 745 Millenium Pro  .45 that I love. It has a 3 1/4" barrel and is very accurate and dependable. I have already put 500 rnds with no problem. Excellent CCW and I paid around $350.   cooldude

I wish I could CCW, I live in the only friggin state that is a bunch of uptight piss ants for polititians. They think(in my opinion) giving law abiding citizens the right to carry will up crime. Wait maybe those that are lawabiding will help get rid of some of the scum out there. Sorry to rant a little. always liked guns but just bought my first one last year Springfield XDm .45 4" barrel 13 in the clip.

I LOVE IT......

and agree gun shopping is like bikes musclecars can never have too much fun with them....

Nice gun. Though very expensive and HEAVY for it's size.

For an everyday concealed weapon I'd recommend something lighter in a compact design with a poly frame by a manufacturer like H&K, Glock, Smith etc. I used to carry my full sized USP .40 which is a poly frame and light by comparison to a metal framed pistol and even that got kind of old. I still have the .40 but I also have a USP 9 compact that I prefer carrying.

Beware of Sig's latest offerings. Their quality has suffered as of late as has their customer service.

Also, as some have mentioned don't rule out used weapons. I got my USP for a fraction of what it otherwise would have cost because I got a used (but functionally perfect) example.

I have a Bianchi holster that I like because it rides HIGH. This allows me to wear long jerseys that can completely cover the weapon, even in the warmest weather

I carry a Baretta Tom Cat.  It fits in a wallet holster in my front pocket.  One in the chamber (not cocked) and seven in the magazine.  The first pull is double action the remaining ones are single action.  Light weight, not a range gun, but I don't carry that one to the range.  Excellent carry weapon.

Recommend u give the Glock G36 a close look/test drive before any final decision on a carry piece.  Light and smooth of edge and easy to hide.  6+1 rounds of .45acp.  100% reliable.  We grant that such decisions are subjective, but we think you will be hard pressed to do better than the G36 for carry.

We trudge on (well armed).
