« on: March 22, 2012, 11:28:58 AM »

I know we are all thinking about the trip to Austin, but we should also begin planning for our trip to the GOTF the following weekend.

Last year, Serk (Brian) put together a good route that was scenic and not too hard on the bottoms.  We even saw dolphins riding the ferry (no, we were riding the ferry - the dolphins were swimming next to it) across in Galveston.  Below is his route info from last March:

"(Anyone else that wants to take a different route please feel free to speak up too, I don't wanna totally take over this thread, but...)

If I leave my place in Rowlett at 9AM, here's a basic timetable:

(I made the following assumptions - 15 minute of break for every hour of travel, average travel speed (Although I like to go about 10-15 over at least most of the time) I put these in that way because I'd rather have a scheduled arrival at 5 and arrive at 4 then scheduled arrival at 5 and arrive at 6.

SUMMARY
Driving distance:  380.6 miles
Trip duration:  8 hours, 3 minutes
Driving time:  6 hours, 24 minutes

Here's the basic route:

And here's a little more detailed view of the southern part of the route (Going on the assumption most of ya'll will be more familiar with the northern end of it)

"

Where we meetup is a question.  A good meetup point would be the Shell station at the Silverado Drive exit, which is on 175 just south of I-20.  It appears to be the first exit after the mixupmaster at I-20.

Last year, we left at 7:45 to meet MP. Hoser and Clintsdivco in Athens at 9:00am.

So, there's one way to get there.  Disco led a group down I-45 last year, not sure what he'll do this year.

For the record, I'll probably be running the same route as I did last year (And the year before, and the year before that, and.....) but I don't know exactly when I'll be leaving. The spousal unit has tentatively agreed to bring the triplets, so that means she'll be coming down in the minivan, and she might request me to escort her for the trip, so I'm having to leave things very flexible at this time...

I would like to leave Fri. morning taking I45 to somewhere north of Houston proper and skirting around some way and coming back up I45 to HoJo.
I have not taken time to come up with a route yet.
If anyone interested in this approach and, maybe, has a suggested route, let me know.

I'll likely leave sometime Thursday afternoon, and overnight somewhere south of DFW.  Might look to hook up with some of the crew going down from DFW Friday.  I'd prefer a mid afternoon arrival at the Hojo.

Scott - the route listed puts us in mid-afternoon if we leave at 8:00am from Dallas.  Would be very happy to have you share wind with us.

I don't get back in the DFW area until Friday afternoon so we're heading down Saturday morning.  Anyone else traveling Saturday?

I have a Garmin route saved if anyone wants it. Just drop me an email.

Looks like KSU at 8:30am Friday morning from Shell station at the Silverado Drive exit, which is on 175 just south of I-20.  It appears to be the first exit after the mixupmaster at I-20.

I'll be there about 8:00am.  Let me know if you are coming so that I'll wait for you.

Scott, if you want to join up, just tell us where you'll be and we'll figure out a meet time and location.

So, who's gonna be there Thursday? Smiley

It will be well into Friday afternoon before I'm KSU for a blast down I-45.

If all goes really well, a 2100 arrival might be possible.  Otherwise, 2200-2230 might be more like it.

Save me a Shiner and some 'sketti!
