I wanted to swap out my trailer lights for LED replacements. The draw on my brake lights is about 10 amps. I could down size the 5007 bulbs, but I really wanted the bright bake lights.
I got some generic LED 1157 and 1156 bulbs and they seem bright outside the tail light housing but when you pop them into to the housing they look like candles. I was on superbrightleds.com and they say to get leds the same color as your lens. Is that why my white LEDs look like candles in the lenses?

Anyone have some pointers on replacing these so I can save some current draw on my brake lights?

It's a hanigan trailer. It has two 1157s for bake and tail, two 1156 for tail. and two 23W 5007 for brakes, now.

In the daytime, LEDs aren't very bright. Have you looked at them in the dark?

doesn't sound right to me.  should be bright enough in broad day light.  take the lights you bought and put them in something else, like your car, see what they look like there, maybe you have a bad connection, or maybe they're not getting a full contact in the trailer.  good luck, let us know what you get.

(yeah, i know a little about LED's.)

Powered up by a battery, brake lights only. One side LEDs the other is one 1157 and one 23W 5007.

It does look better at night but not great.

Yes, the left is the LEDs and they are clear, the lenses are red, but the light looks amber. Maybe I should have opted for the red LEDs?

Well, from my internet searching... it seems that I should have got the red leds. they say that the red lens filters out the blue light from a white LED and leaves the yellow light which through a red lens looks amber.

Now I gotta send them back.  Cry

I am not an expert. I tried amber and red bulbs on my bike and was unhappy with them. Some I gave away, I think I still have some ambers in my box, PM your address, you can have them. I put LED bulbs in the plate lights on my truck, very white and directional, don't ask where or what they are, my son did the research and ordered them. LED saleslady in SD told me to get red for red lenses, white with a red lens makes pink according to her.

Yep, the LED has to be the smae color as the plastic lens to achieve maximum color/brightness.

Here is the brake light in MGM, don't have a picture of the LED's in my trailer.  Both are attention getters when applied.

This is the replacement innards from Radiantz.

http://www.radiantz.com/

Click on taillights, then click Honda and it should appear.    Couldn't get the link to take us there from here.

I used the one on the right, had to trim a notch off.    These B*stard's will get your attention when applied.

Look at the reflection in the tractor seat, this is in a fully lighted shop.   In fact there is 4 tube florescent right above the bike.
