Hi guys,
It's time to sell my bike and I'm hoping to get/charge a fair price. It's a '97 Valkyrie 1500C with 74000 miles. Mechanically it is in very good condition: I don't know of any issues. The "problems" cosmetically include: minor scratches in the tank and a broken tab for holding the right side cover. Minimal rust, though there are two spots about the size of quarters on the handle bar. The bike has new tires and new shocks.
I've posted it for $4400 locally, but wonder if that seems a fair price? Thanks for your help.

without pictures its hard, but Id say $4,000 or so, sounds like you are at a fair point of negotiation to start at

Bought mine for $3500. It had 59k on the clock. Other than needing a couple cans of Seafoam due to sitting and not being ridden, she was fine. I've ridden her to the mountains a couple of times and she came with a few expensive extras. I think I got an exception deal that doesn't come along every day.

Mine's priceless......at least to me it is.  It'd take an awfully big check to convince me to part with it.

But like Jeff said........let's see some pics before we can give you a ballpark figure.

One point of reference is Kelly Blue Book for motorcycles.

I wouldn't follow the KBB price at all. In 09' I bought my IS with 40K miles on it, for $6K. KBB at that time was about $8K. It doesn't matter what the book says, when there are always bike out there that are listed for something else, weither that is a high or low price.

Call me foulish, but I've been looking ever since I had my accident for another IS. I've missed some REALLY good deals (wasn't ready to buy), and some very nice priced ones, and I'm still seeing them being offered from $5,500-$13000. I have the money to pay what ever I want for one, but I wouldn't pay more than $8K for an IS with EVERYthing that I would want on one (CB/seat/rails/color,etc.).

Sorry, ment to add, look for a CL search tool and see what other prices might be like. I use searchtempest.com

Thanks for your comments. Here are some recent pics of the bike: with bags for riding 2 up, and also bagless and solo.

Kelly Blue Book suggests $5,080 for your bike in excellent condition and your pictures suggest that your bike would qualify for that. Your bags, new shocks and custom seat adds some additional value as well. Your asking of $4,400 for yours with 74K miles is a certainly not asking too much for such a nice bike. If it's running good you might be on the low side for selling in the Spring. I should move quickly at that price. If your not in a hurry you could shoot a little higher.  cooldude

I just bought my "new" Valkyrie for $5900 in Oct. It had a little over 15,000 miles on it with lots of extras on it. I think you are right in the ball park on it.
Think about the price you really want for it and ask about $500 more, that way you can negotiate down to the price you what. Don't start at the price you want...

You can easily fix the side cover tab and remove the little rust.  It's always best to have any vehicle you're selling in top cosmetic shape.  It will be worth the little time and effort and may get you a few hundred more dollars.

Not trying to be mean, but those saddlebags detract from the look of the bike.  They need a good conditioning with a product having black dye to bring up the eye appeal.

Good luck...you should get your price as long as it starts and runs well.

PS...I'd like to see pictures of the bike in the background.....

I'm somewhat surprised that everybody is practically giving away their Valks!
We should be demanding top dollar because they are definitely going to be sought-after classics.
It's just like the Corvette- if you bought one in say, 1968, for maybe $8,000 (no idea really), then 25 years later you're sitting on a gold mine!  Same thing with the Valk!
We should do some advertising or something to help keep the prices jacked up as much as possible, because the Valk is part of my retirement plan.
We need to get some really good video footage of a bunch of Valks out for a good time, put it on Youtube, and watch the prices go up.

Thanks jrhorton. I knew the bags looked tired. Here they are after a bit of a cleanup.

Good idea, but can we wait until I get back from my trip and am craving another one?
