Today I went to the bank to get a money order.  Since I do most everything by electronic transfer, I don’t have a check book, and I purchased some things from a person that does not do electronic transfers, so I had to get a money order.

I go to the bank teller and tell her how much I need, then before she starts looking up anything I ask her how much it’s going to cost, she tells me $5!!  I just about lost it!!  I couldn’t believe $5!!  I asked her, why so much?  She says that all their fees have gone up.  So, I told her that $5 is a rip off, and that I’d be better off going to wal-mart.  So I do.  Stood in line for about 30 seconds, paid my 60 cents!  Got a receipt, went back to the bank and showed it to the bank manager.  I calmly told them that I can’t believe that they charge $5 for a money order, pay me less than 1% interest on my savings account, and when I had a mortgage with them they charged me 6.7%, and they have the gall to charge me $5 for a simple money order.  Outrageous!!

My mother use to tell me, “it’s NOT how much you make, it’s HOW you spend it.”

if wally world wasn't so close, and this bank wasn't so easy to get to, and i did this thing more then once every five years or so, i'd close the account and shop else were!!

another thing my mother use to do is have money in about ten different banks, and she'd go to what ever bank offered a free service for what it is that she needed.  i tell you, there's a reason why they charge those fee's, it's because they're a business!!  they don't care to keep you safe, they're there to rip you off if they can.

+1  cooldude on the credit unions. We've been looking at "newer" cars recently and the dealer even said that they could not beat the credit unions on interest rates.

Money orders are free at my bank too...........gotta have an account with them tho.

If you had your mortage there and also a savings account, I would think if you took it up to the bank manager first off instead of the clerk, you would've gotten it for free.  The clerks are just following orders is all and need to go higher up to get things done.  I shop around all the time for the cheapest home and auto and cycle insurance and best rate on my CD's when they come due.  Brand loyalty or loyalty to a company is no longer relevant nowadays and would rather save a few bucks than be friends in most cases like these.

meh..... I got better things to lose sleep over.

But, I can tell you one thing, my bank will get $5 before I give the Evil Empire (WalMart) a penny. My bank is a regional entity and provides loans for local people/business to open and/or expand.

The Evil Empire does nothing but kill communities and good jobs (one of the many that destroy good jobs).
