me. Put on a new back tire last  Friday ,had 9k on a E3 and was almost to the bars but had the cupping noise bad in the turns. Anyway along with brake pads I guess I'll keep a dampner set on hand with o-rings . Dampners , the aluminum inserts in the rubber are loose,  hopefully will be in tomorrow or Thursday in time to head to freindswood Fri .  cooldude

What are dampeners, and where do they go? Are you talking about the rubber inserts in the rear wheel?

If I recall correctly Gary's wife Portia has the bushings to sell but not the dampeners. If anyone has different info please weigh in.

Yes, the dampeners are the rubber inserts in the rear wheel.

Get the dampeners out of the 2001-up...the insert is molded in place and lasts much longer than the older two-part ones.

As said, Gary doesn't have the dampeners any longer, he only made small batch runs when there was enought demand for them, and that was last summer, and he was sold out.

However, his estate is still selling the shock bushings for the VTX/Valkyrie. I think untill they run out, then there will be no more from that source.

The source of choice now is XF6.

Thanks for all the info guys. I just wanted to up date ,new ct,brake pads, shock bushings, and 2001 dampner set,all installed...a few weeks or so ago a fellow posted   a fix for worn dampners,at the time I thought it was a good idea, guess its been a while since I put a set in. No way or how, do a fix on dampners. The new sets are SUPER tight, and a hard point for torque transfer. For the 40.00 ,well spent

Watch out for those cell phones.    PS giving the shifter a wiggle seemed to help stabbing the drive shaft back in .

How much play, if any should the dampeners have?  When I had my rear wheel off I could move them about 3/16".  With only 31k on the odo, I didn't think they would be worn.

Ideally they should have no play. The rubber will shrink with age, I wouldn't think they wear that much.

I think I should replace them.  Pulling the wheel again, that sounds like fun!  HDL or somewhere else?

Yes and like Daniel said order the 01 or up models,,they are super tight and wil need to tap the driven hub on/in lightly with a rubber mallet..Usually dealer will match hdl prices if they have them in stock,,otherwise its easyer to just have hdl deliver.
