My new (to me) 2000 Interstate has the same noise. Sounds like a turbo charger spooling up when I rev it up. I was thinking it was just transmission noise amplified by the Kuryakyn trans covers, but maybe not. My 2003 Standard doesn't seem to make the same noise.

That is just the air whistling through your teeth with that big acceleration grin you are sportin'!!!   crazy2

(Sorry, just had to...)

Don't have much else to offer, but if it is still running good, I would guess the leak to be before the carbs, otherwise you'll feel a performance hit due to the change in fuel/air mix. Maybe the airbox is not closed right, or one of the tubes to the carbs is not on right. Might need to get a small inspection mirror to look at the back of the tubes to be sure they are on right. I've seen a few posts where that was a problem (but not whistling).

Depending upon your technique, it may still be a vacuum leak in one of the hoses, there are quite a few hoses present if there's been no desmog.

That a leaking hose causes most whistling sounds on a Valkyrie is well documented.

I suggest you keep looking!

Yes I found it it was a vacuum leak in a hose thanks every one for your thoughts. when I could not find it I told my wife that I thought it was just all the guys whistling at her and her bike but she would not buy it so I had to go and look some more.

Stanley Steamer's Interstate makes a throttle-modulated "whistling sound", now that
it has a rebuilt MARS alternator in it... could that be your sound?

You may be hearing a whistleing noise coming from the upper fairing vent, especially if you have a "ShowChrome" windsheild in your I/S.

The vacuum leak was on the right side of the bike center carburetor. vacuum line had a small crack in it when I was looking the first time I must have put down pressure on the line so it did not leak . the second time I got a little more aggressive with the vacuum lines and sure enough there it was .
