I currently have a first-generation Ultimate Lowrider seat on my Interstate, which I've been using for a few years now. I've tried a Corbin, which was way too hard and tall, and the stock seat is a little too tall, as I'm only 5'6", and the ultimate puts me at the right height. However, on long trips, actually anything over 3 or so hours, my butt bones start to hurt really bad. Since I'm planning on the 1400 mile trip to InZane in July, I really need to find a seat that will support my 215 lbs. without hurting, yet still let me reach the ground safely. I'd also like one with some type of guarantee that I can return it if it doesn't do the job. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you have a driver backrest? I noticed that after installing a backrest, my ergos and seating position changed making the stock seat much more comfortable.

Yes, I do have a backrest, and I'm sure it helps some with my back, but not with my dupa bones.

I looked at the Russell website, and it says it will not lower me at all, which I kinda need.

I've got 4 seats,Corbin,hartco(russel),Ultimate,and a mustang.
The mustang gets the most time on the bike.
Most comfortable,cheapest,and the highest quality.
It does sit me slightly higher and further back.
Just what I need as I'm tall and heavy.
Save your money.
Buy the mustang.

Ultimate Big Boy for me Cool, whether it's 1200 miles in 19 hours from HotGlues or 400 in 6 hours last week from Iowa your posterior is going to get sore. Mine is more upper leg muscles that tighten up over a long trip.  Best to walk a little at each gas stop to loosen things up. cooldude Not getting off the bike for one gas stop equates to 350 miles for me on my IS and I can tell it when I get off at the next one. Also stay well hydrated. If you're not going at each gas stop, you're not drinking enough water. Wink

You should be able to ride all day long on an Ultimate.

The best cure for sore butt is more time in the saddle.

I have a Mustang for my standard.  Riders backrest and a gel pad for the seat kept me comfortable from WV to Seattle and back............

Actually everyone is different,  What is bliss for one may be torture for another.  For me its Corbin.  My riding Bud had a Mustang and it was pure misery for him.  I would swap off and let him run a tank on my Corbin just to give him some relief.  He runs an Ultimate now, dont know which version, its better, but not ideal.  You need to try the different ones, at least set on each for a little to help you chose.  Meby come to Inzane and I am sure some folks wouldnt object to you trying theirs on.   I had great luck with the stock 2K seat and Utopia backrest on my first Valk, my youngest son is still running this combo.  There are mods you can do to the seats, and seat pans that some swear by.

There is no better saddle, IMO, than the Russell Day-Long.  I've tried them all, and for me they were all torture except for the Russell.  I've been around Valkyrie folks for a long time now.  I've talked to people who like or dislike just about every seat ever made for this bike, but I have never heard anyone who owned a Russell NOT like it.

Give them a call and see what they can do.  They can make a seat however you want it.  They won't give you your money back, but they will adjust it if you aren't happy.

FYI:  You have to sent them a stock seat to make a new seat from. They use the stock pan...

I had a Mustang seat now an Ultimate...used an Airhawk seat cushion on both...for around $189.00 it's a cheap fix...the Airhawk helps when riding in hot weather as well...no monkey butt.....hope this helps...

I 5'7" and run an Ultimate Bigboy over a low-rider. It sits me back a bit further than I like, but the cushioning's fantastic.

I agree with Scott, I've owned them all mentioned and chose the Russell, they made my wife a saddle that is un-believeable...each saddle is designed by how you seat your bike, height, weight and inseam....they will make it fit...and I haven't ever heard anybody say they didn't like their Russell... cooldude

You tried a Russell and didn't like it?

I do like the Russell but I'm not sure if one at his height will be good. Most Russell seats sit high.

Had a Ultimate low boy.  Could not take a long ride.  Got a russell day long, and am looking to ride more after 800 miles a day.
Maybe a bigboy would have been better???
I believe it just depends on each one's rear end.  Stock could be the best, or anyone of the other seats.

I've owned the others, I rode the Russell (switched bikes) Didn't care for it, although it looks great. My $$s is used to my Ultimate. First thing I did was remove the Corbin and sell it, can't ride that around the block.

I have a Mustang and like it. I'm 5'-7" and 205 lbs. It did set me a hair lower to the ground but i'm still on my tippy toes most of the time. Depends what boots I have on also. I also have a woolie for long trips. Helps keep your butt from sweating, which then makes your butt hurt.

Hey!  There is ONE person who likes the Mustang! (Honestly never heard anyway say they really liked the Mustang for anything longer than a trip to the store)

I haven't had the funds to purchase a custom seat, yet.

But, I have done alot of looking and have asked alot of questions of Valkyrie riders that have custom seats.

I've decided that the Ulitimate is the best looking seat and probably very comfortable but that the Daylong is probably by far the more comfortable of the two.

I did call HARTCO and spoke with Mark, I told him that I was leaning towards the Ultimate seat for my bike.  He assured me that he could custom build me a seat that would be better and more comfortable than either the Ultimate or the Daylong.

http://www.hartcoseats.com/hondavalkyrie.html

At that time the Hartco seat was also the least exspensive of the three.

The only thing that has kept me from trying a Hartco seat is that I haven't had the opportunity to ask any fellow Valkyrie riders with Hartco seats about their opinion of them.

No, I'm still there with you for now.

I think that my stock seat is finally starting to fit my Arse.

It doesn't bother me as much as it used to.

But, I am looking forward to having a nice custom seat with a backrest someday.

I will say if you haven't tried the Ultimate lately the newer seats are not the same as the older seats (better foam?). I rode on Rhonda's newer style Ultimate Lowboy seat 250 miles last Saturday and the butt liked it just fine. The lowboy seat drops you down a bit from a stock Honda seat.

I try to get my feet up on my highway pegs as often as possible and change my seating position.  I too have an Ultimate lowboy and even it bites at me after a while.

My interstate has a Ultimate BigBoy,, Des's sseat is a Ultimate low boy, The blue and Cream Valk has a Mustang but id like to get a Ultimate for it. Then i have a Factory seat and a custom upholstered factory seat. The interstates seat was reupholstered by a guy in chandler and he added  just a extra thin layer of foam, its my favorite.  So eventually i want another Ultimate for the Blue and Cream.

I have found out through the years { i found out this just within the past few years } that the best seat is the one made just for you. and even then you will not know how good the seat is till you have at least 1000-1500 miles on them. my seat was reshaped 3 times before it was right. not the fault of the man that built it. it was me. i require a wide flat seat instead of a rounded bucket shaped seat. my advice is this, keep what you have till you get back and have one made for you. on your trip i would start early and end the day early stop every 100-150 miles. i also the noticed i can not ride 700 miles in a day anymore. i am not 20 years old anymore and at my age i just need to stop more often. no shame in that. stop, gas the bike. have a bottle water and walk around a bit. you will find at the end of the day you will fell better and your butt will be in better shape for the next days ride.

Hartco Custom for me... I tried a few of the off the shelf seats back in the day, and none were much of an improvement over stock for me, but then again I couldn't handle the stock seat for literally more than 30-50 miles TOPS. I HAD to stop, it wasn't hurting, it was BURNING...

The Hartco is _UGLY_, but that's because he makes it to your specifications, how tall you are, how fat you are and how wide your butt is... I'm 6'7", 300 pounds, and my posterior is anything but petite, so the seat had to be huge. It's ugly, but I can ride on that seat all day long...

He also made it extra thick for me, it raises me up a good 2" over stock, which because of my height is a good thing. Obviously if you're..... vertically challenged... he can make it thinner/shorter for you too...

I've had mine long enough, I had to have it re-upholstered at a local shop, the original covering wore though, but that was after about 80,000 or so rough miles, I don't fault Hartco for that...

As has been said, every posterior is gonna be different, what's Nirvana for one will be Hades for another, and unfortunately it can get expensive trying to find the RIGHT one for you, but IMHO custom made is the way to go...

I had a Hartco picked up off of e-bay and liked it ok then decided to get an Ultimate which tore my rear end up. Called Mark and had a Hartco built for me and it's been a great seat. Like Serk said, the Hartco is ugly but so am I and my butt doesn't know it's ugly too so it's happy on long trips.

One more thing I almost forgot about the Hartco, it was so long ago...

When I first got it and put it on, my initial inclination was to toss it in the lake I hated it so much. It's initial comfort was "Um, I'm sitting on a ROCK!"

It took a few hundred miles for my butt and the seat to beat each other into submission, but ever since those first few hundred miles were done, it's been fine...

I did my Iron Butt on that seat... Got home, and wanted to keep going the other direction and make it a Bun Burner 1,500 gold I felt so good, but the spousal unit cut off gas money so I had to be satisfied with just a Saddle Sore 1,000...

I have a low rider and the addition of a gel pad and various pegs, my back and neck and shoulders are not as bad as they were on the stock seat.

Try something simply like a gel-pad or air-hawk cheaper than a new seat. I think the big-boy from ultimate will set you too high up. I am 5'10 or so and set on my buddies big boy, he is 6'8" too much for me.
