Well at least you're alive. Why do you think miscreants set you up?

I know that some d-bags up north were spreading gravel in corners. Not cool.

My experience is they give Kelly Blue Book average to high price depending on accesories and ability to provide receipts.  Pictures help a ton too, especially recent ones before the accident.

Hope you fell better soon and the pain does go away, but slower than we would like it.  Do what the doctors tell you and don't rush the recovery or it'll take a LOT longer.

Glad you are alive!  ???

I would gather as many Valk sale information (already sold) from ebay on bikes in similar condition with 'bout the same mileage.
I would then average the sale prices as the basis for settlement discussions.  Smiley

The insurance company does not want your bike. See if they would buy you one that you choose from the classifieds and keep the damaged one for parts.
They might agree to sell it back to you for say $500..?  Undecided

I think you'd do better that way... if you want another Valkyrie, that is.  Wink

Get better.  cooldude

Make sure you point out any aftermarket bling n chrome......

Like the chrome valve covers...... LOL

When I had my accident, the adjustor was going to give me blue book..... until I pointed out all the after market add ons.... Like the pipes...(he thought they were custom, but just drilled and stacks on em), the chrome valve covers (he didnt know they came stock) and all teh other stuff...

Added another $2000 to the total...

Also got a new helmet and jacket........ well I could've,  Wink but they still wear alright....

Hit em for all you can.....

And if the frames strait and you think you can save her... find out what it would do to get it back...

I worked with the agent and he took the salvage value off the settlement and I never gave them the title.... so it is not a salvage title here in Michigan.... might be different in other states, but I still have a clean title now. I think if you dont transfer the title to the insurance company and it stays in your name, then it wont have to be salvage.  Might show in a car fax though or the other insurance companies... not sure, but I dont plan on ever selling it either.

All the damage to mine was cosmetic and I'm handy and know a good paint guy and she looks brand new....

Something to think about...

Sounds like my adventure. Only my interstate was less than 2 weeks old and only 135 miles on her. (It was February...brrrr) I ended up with 8 broken ribs, punctured lung, and a separated shoulder. The doctors said I was totaled. But I came back and so can you. cooldude

The insurance co totaled my bike but I bought it back for $741. They gave me $11,000  minus the $741. Got her back together for less than $2000. It took a few months to fix her (and myself) but I have put over 84k miles in the last 6 years.

What kind of valkyrie is it? Standard, tourer, interstate? That might decide how much you get and if its worth fixing. Hopefully she is fixable and you can get more miles on her.

Sorry to hear this for sure. For the info you requested, in your area even (NO&BTR), look to a few old ebay sales. I have need no less then 3 Valkyries sell in the last 6 months. The lowest for 5K and the highest for 9k. Also if it helps, a local dealer here has 3 in the used section for 6k at the bottom to 8k at the top. They are in fair shape. My Ins Co list my 99 tourer at 5k +3k for addons.

When I had my accident, and wrote the bike off, it was the fall, and there where no bikes for sale, and prices where dropping ($10K down to $7K locally).

When they made their first offer, it was really good. In my case, I made a counter, and she took that to her "dealer" friend who said it was a "fair" price.

The best piece of advise, wait, wait till they make an offer. In my case, I had just gotten the bike home 6 mon before, and the purchase price was on record, $7K, but they offered me what I could buy one for $9.2K. I got more since it was an IS model.

Not knowing about your accident, my frame was bent from the impact. Remove the tank and check the frame out before you think about using it.

At the end of it all, I should have bought a new frame for $1500, and just transfer all the parts over, and replace the broken ones over time.

When I lost my 2000 tourer in 2009 with 32K on it, the ins company offered 5K. They were quoting a C not a CT. So watch it and make sure you list all the bling and paint added in if you have it. In the end I got them to raise it to $7500

My 2000 Standard was totaled 2 years ago and I was offered around $4,500 for it. I got them up to $7,000 after providing a list of my accessories and what they cost me. I was able to keep a fair amount of the parts before the cycle was taken away. They tried telling me they would get 70% of the $7,000 for the totaled cycle and that I would need to pay that if I wanted to buy her back. The frame and forks were badly bent, so there was no way they would get that much, nor would I pay it.

I ended up bringing my Interstate home a month later and couldn't be happier.

I hope you heal up well, quickly.

when I got a settlement I had a declared value on the bike - they argued it was too high for the market conditions.  The estimator had put a low recovery value on the bike (10% of value) and so I first negotiated with the tow/storage operator for a flat cash fee from him.  I then went back to the insurance company and made a counter that I would take their offer if they waived the deductible and I would pay the tow/storage on it direct to the tow guy and the bike would not show as a salvage or write off.

I made money on the deal and have added some extras to the bike with their money - things I wanted like a fairing and an I/S tank etc.

Good luck dealing & healing.

Update-----Went to the salvage yard to look @ the fat Girl Cry I was very suprised that there was only cosmetic damage from what I saw. I was advised by the Trooper that I had hit the vehicle in the left rear corner, and hard enough to flaten tire, so I assumed that the front end was gone, toast, asta lavista baby, you get the picture.  Well, upon arrival at the storage yard and took one look @ her I knew she was going to be ok  Roll Eyes.  I could see that the bike had not hit on the front tire, the forks appeared to be ok, and the tire was up. I put the key in and she lit right up!!!!!!! Grin
What I remember from the accident is that there were 3 cars moving accross lanes to the left and @ a very slow pace, I moved to the left to go around the last vehicle when it stopped and my hwy peg caught the rear of the last car causeing me loose control and she went down on the right side.
So, right now I see that I need to R&R the front fairing, right saddle bag, rt crash bar, rt-radiator pod,  and foot peg!!!!! I know that there will some things that I can't see, thottle seems tight, and bent but still works.
With all of that I truely belive that she will rise from ashes cooldude
Thank you to all who replied----I did learn that the adjuster had looked @ the fat girl, so hopefully soon I will know more.

Look her over closely, you might find other issues. My cycle didn't look too bad, but pulled hard to one side when ridden (bent forks). After taking a few parts off, the holes wouldn't line up with the frame anymore, so that was bent too.

Hate to hear about the crash; glad you will personally be okay.  One place to be sure and look is the lower sub-frame, especially on the side you hit.  It bolts to the main frame back around the footpegs, but it supports the engine up behind where the exhaust pipes come out of the head.  Pretty common for it to get knocked around, and break the mounting boss on the engine.  Hope the lady pulls through!

Totaled my IS last July, they paid me $7.5-$8K, not sure now.  I bought it back from the insurance company for $768.  It was totaled on the tupperware alone, $13K parts and labor.  THe salvage title will vary by state, but here in Ga, They require an inspection before they issue a salvage title so you can get a new tag and insurance.  The state has contracted this function to lcaal companies and I spoke with the guy who performs the inspections.  He told me that it was a saftey inspection and he would look for all the lights and horn to work properly and he didn't care how it looked or even if it ran.  As it turned out, my "old" title was lost between the insurance company and the DMV and they have no action pending on my title.  I am going to just order a replacement title and forget about it.  When and if I ever sell it, I will disclose the accident to the buyer.... just one of my character flaws.  Go to your DMV website and search for the info, everything you need to know should be there.

I have had experience with two wrecked Valks, first was a 2K I/S that had been upside down,  It was brand new, and I bought it from the owner dirt cheap, he had settled with the Insurance and bought it back never turning the title over to them so was clean.  I retitled it in my state and spent about 1200 bux fixing/painting, and it has been great.  the second was my Buds 97 Tour, he wrecked it, bent the frame, and same deal, settled with insurance, buy back, and we got a new frame with his Vin on it, tore it down, and built it back up, and he just kept the clean title.   Think he has put about 100K miles on it since.

Usually they quote new parts.... as in my case...... cosmetic damage and labor is what totaled mine.....

I was able to do the work myself and had a good painter to fix the rash on the bag, pods,  and fairing... still had to replace some parts with new.. like the crash bars and found a used trunk in the same color.... overall it was about $2800 to fix it all, and I got the bike for $1600... so I now have an 2000 Interstate for just over $4000... Well I did spend some of the extra money on some new bling..LOL

What I would do is start a list of the parts you need... If the bike still runs and the frame is good, and see what you might have to put into it to get it back..... If you cant do it much cheaper or there is to much damage, you might be better to let her go and find a new baby......

But usually if you dont mind some fixed or used parts, you should be able to get it back in shape for ALOT less then when the insurance says it will take.

Road Rash Parts, I talked with my Insurance guy about why they totaled my girl----He advised that when a body part on a motorcyle is damaged in any-way----paint missing----They have to replace with new parts  ???  I just guess it's just the labor from the paint guys that is regulating this type of mind set----I have a quote for $1100 to repaint my lady in the winter---with parts I will have less than $2000 to make her better than  before-----Just seems odd-----

I just want to advise any body that crashes to let the dust settle before buying new parts----have ordered 3 things wrong :tickedoff:I guess that the pain from the 6 broke ribs and pain medication had my head all messed up-----My insurance company was American Reliable Ins. CO. I started to remove parts today, have the crash bars off, thottle and discovered that I didn't bend the handlebar Roll Eyes I had to order a new radiator pod as mine was broke, it could be fixed, but one of the mounting holes is the part that broke off. Will advise as the Phenix startes to rise Grin

Thanks for any info, peace.

i use Dairyland. they called me right back when i started the claim...said "were you wearing any safety gear...and if so, was it damaged?" when i answered yes, they said send a photo of damage. i sent photos of damage to my Tourmaster Intake jacket and gloves. they priced them AT TODAY'S price...then took off 10% per year (three years for the jacket)....and took nothing off for the 6 month old gloves...and cut me that check immediately. i bought a brand new Intake two jacket...and gloves...with that check. i didn't like the cosmetic look of the new Intake series three about to come out.

for the bike....they gave me exactly what the Honda shop estimate said...minus my 250 deductible. some said my bike would be totaled. but they said nope, we see all the chrome and accessories..and will take that into account. they did me right. i've had another claim on Sherry's Rune when she did 3k of damage. they were just as prompt, courteous and reasonable. nothing but good things to say about Dairyland here. oh, and they cost less than Progressive here in my area....cause i checked.....
