I need a CB module for my 99iS, they are a high dollar part at this time. For a lot less I can get a Yamaha venture module, I have been told that these will work with no or little Mods. Anyone have experience with this, or heard anything? Thankyou. littlebiglee

I have the Hondaline CB system on my Interstate. IMHO, there's something about having the dual antennas that just works and looks right on these bikes. I don't often use the CB but I'm very glad I have it.
I have an extra Hondaline CB radio (Clarion) and I might also have the CB radio mount that goes under the Interstate trunk. I also have an extra CB passenger push to talk switch. I do NOT have an extra CB antenna, antenna mount or the noise filter. I 'think' the noise filter may still be available but the original red plastic tip Hondaline CB antenna and the chrome CB antenna mount are very hard items to come by.

Can anyone tell him yes or no ...Will the Yamaha venture module work on the Interstate ? If so what's needed to do so? He e-mailed me about this and I sent him here to ask the question.

Yes, it will. I have Clarion Model JC-215R. This is Yamaha Part number 4XY-88182-00. It's plug and play with the Interstate wiring harness for the handlebar controls.

Sure, I'll sell my Hondaline CB and mounting bracket. If you're interested, just send me a PM. There's a Yamaha CB that's been modified to work on the Interstate on eBay right now. Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Valkyrie-CB-Radio-Converted-to-work-with-Interstate-/200734058130?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ebcaea692&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1202I've always been told the Yamaha CB will work once it's been modified. From looking at an original Honda CB, it looks like the modification 'may' involve shortening the cables. Two of the three Hondaline CB cables are much longer than what's shown with the Yamaha CB. Big Mike from Valkyrie Bling and More would advertise them as 'modified to work' with the Interstate when he has them for sale. Anyway, I'm sure it's something pretty easy. Even the eBay auction states it's been modified to work with the Interstate. Here's a link to a near complete Hondaline CB kit. The only thing I see missing is the radiator fan filter wire harness. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-VALKYRIE-INTERSTATE-OEM-CB-WITH-MOUNTING-BRACKETS-ANTENNA-COMPLETE-RARE-/260989326116?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc42d1324&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1202I added a Standard/Tourer tail light to my Interstate so I moved my CB next to the battery anyway. All the best, Mark

They do not need to be modified, I run one on my IS, just mounted it behind the battery box, works fine, all the handle bar functions work just like a stock radio.

the noise filter that originally went with the IS CB option is still available...i bought one last fall and installed it...just plugs in between a connector under the right steering head cover. I believe it is part # 08118-MN500-05 . it is same noise filter as used on goldwing for the suspension air pump or something...but it's the same filter and it plugs into the valk. the std/tourer kit also came with a filter for the alternator but you don't need it on the IS as the IS alternator already has a filter on it.
for the antenna, you can use the GL1200 antenna kit. then you need to buy the GL1200 chrome antenna mount bracket (about $40) and cut a few inches off it and cut open the bottom and drill a hole then it slides right over the IS bar and mounts just like the original one from honda for your IS. I think there may be a post on the forum on how to do this.
I bought a radio from valkryrie bling...i think it was the yamaha radio but he removed the label so i am not sure. i put in the noise filter and did the antenna as i describe above. I mounted the CB unit in the battery compartment which I think is a superior location than under the trunk...less exposed to weather and such. everything looks and works just like i ordered the bike that way.
good luck

Since the original Honda idea was to mount the CB under the trunk, it has two long harnesses to reach the side cover/battery area. The 'modified' ones as pictured have the shorter harnesses to mount next to the battery. Perhaps that's the only 'modification' people have made who have used the Yamaha CB unit.

I added the Yamaha Venture CB to my Interstate. Found out it would work and found one before a Honda unit. I think its a little known fact that the Venture CB works on the Interstate so you can usually get one at less cost then the Honda unit. The Honda and Yamaha CBs are made by Clarion.
The Venture CB has shorter leads. That works if you put the CB in the battery box behind the battery. I found the Honda CB mount and put my Venture CB under the trunk. Nothing has to be modified if you put the CB in the back of the battery box. I had to extend the power lead. For the 13 pin connector I got a 13 pin C-BUS extension cable from Sierra Electronics.
I wasn't having any luck finding a Honda CB antenna. The double whips do look good. I went with the GL1200 am/fm/cb antenna from Sierra. Its fits the Honda radio mount and folds. You need the Sierra CP27F antenna splitter to split the radio and CB signals.
